Ojibway Prayer

Grandfather,
Look at our brokenness.
We know that in all creation
Only the human family
Has strayed from the Sacred Way.
We know that we are the ones
Who are divided
And we are the ones
Who must come back together
To walk the Sacred Way.

Grandfather, Sacred One,
Teach us love, compassion and honor
That we may heal the earth
And heal each other.

A Native American Prayer

Mohawk Prayer

Oh Great Spirit, Creator of all things;
Human Beings, trees, grass, berries.
Help us, be kind to us.
Let us be happy on earth.
Let us lead our children
To a good life and old age.
These our people; give them good minds
To love one another.

Oh Great Spirit,
Be kind to us
Give these people the favor
To see green trees,
Green grass, flowers, and berries
This next spring;
So we all meet again
Oh Great Spirit,
We ask of you.

Eternit in France

Asbestos demonstration Paris, October 2012
("Asbestos kills = 3,000 deaths a year)
Eternit and the Great Asbestos Trial
Editors: David Allen and Laurie Kazan-Allen

On 13 February 2012, the verdict of the “trial of the century” was delivered against Stephan Schmidneiny and Louis de Cartier de Marchienne, the principal directors of the Swiss asbestos-cement company, Eternit.  The book, “Eternit and the Great Asbestos Trial” was published by associations for the defense of asbestos victims in 11 countries. It describes Eternit and its owners, the Schmidheiny family, the activism in Casale, Italy, which led to the trial, the implications of the trial, and what is happening in other countries where Eternit factories were located and judicial actions there. Following is an excerpt from the book on Eternit’s asbestos-cement factories in France. The book is available for free on Scribd.com and has been translated into other languages. (See also International Ban Asbestos Secretariat which describes what is happening regarding asbestos worldwide.)

As introduction, here is a brief portrait of the asbestos tragedy in France:  In 1976, asbestos was classified as carcinogenic in France, but its use was banned only in 1997.  Some 2,000 persons died in 1996 from asbestos-related illnesses.  The number could reach 5,000 by the year 2020.  Mortality continues to increase in younger people:  between 1990-93, over 138,000 workers were exposed to asbestos in the building, naval construction, metallurgy and other industries.  (Ref: "La Société Cancérigène" by Geneviève Barbier and Armand Farrachi, 2004.)

Chernobyl: The Great Cover-up

For 50 years dangerous concentrations of radionuclides have been accumulating in earth, air and water from weapons testing and reactor incidents. Yet serious studies of the effects of radiation on health have been obscured – not least by the World Health Organisation.

Chernobyl:  The Great Cover-up
by Alison Katz, Le Monde Diplomatique, April 2008

In June 2007 Gregory Hartl, World Health Organisation (WHO) spokesman for Sustainable Development and Healthy Environments, claimed that the proceedings of the international conference held in Geneva in 1995 on the health consequences of the Chernobyl disaster had been duly published (1). This was not so. And the proceedings of the Kiev conference in 2001 have never been published either. Challenged by journalists a few months later, the WHO repeated the claim, providing references to a collection of abstracts for the Kiev conference and just 12 articles (out of hundreds) submitted to the Geneva conference.

10 Creepy Similarities Between Mobile Phones and Cigarettes

Phones And Smokes : 10 Creepy Similarities
by RMR, posted on Techtree, 15 November 2012

The parallels between mobile phones and cigarettes are on many planes.

We'd all agree that cell phones are addictive: Most of us feel pangs of some sort if we're kept away from them for extended periods. But I've noticed that the similarities between these two objects of passionate desire are disturbingly broad-ranging. Here are ten.

1. Addiction
First up is the most obvious: Cigarettes and phones are both addictive. Here's a sober quote I found about this: "Cell phone dependency is now called compulsive communicating. Chain diallers call continually to get another fix." One statistic — for what it's worth — is from a survey commissioned by T-Mobile: "63% of smartphone users would climb through trash to find a lost phone." That's quite a bit like people on railway platforms looking for cigarette butts.

The Toxic Effect of VTech Tablets on Factory Workers and the Development of Young Children

Last night, I received the following message from a young boy in the Philippines:

"IT seems parents are the one who are killing us kids because we are being addicted to playing angry birds, fruit ninja, etc. Now please, STOP buying tablets for us!!! i'm david brendia of philippines age 8."

And from a parent:

"We parents should be the first to protect our children's welfare & future but it seems we are the one destroying them. save our children, ban all tabs!"

I am extremely grateful to these persons for speaking up.

After a Facebook contact called the VTech Inno Tab 2 tablet a piece of “carcinogenic technojunk”, I decided to research this gadget that will be placed under many Christmas trees this season. Wading through dozens of references on Google, I could find no information on the composition of these products, just a vague mention of plastic and rubber. Almost all sites promoted the positive features of these tablets, inciting parents to buy them for their kids. At $80 per gadget, this means big bucks for Vtech and retailers. French-speaking Switzerland’s most popular consumer magazine, “Bon à Savoir” (391,000 readers) promotes the Vtech tablet as a popular Christmas gift for children, comparing only prices in various stores, with no mention of its “toxic” effects on factory workers producing these gadgets, or on the development of young children.

Boeing Uses Potatoes Instead of People to Test Wi-Fi

Boeing 787 Dreamliner
UPDATED: 31 January 2013:
This is the ultimate in disregard for our health : Boeing testing in-flight Wi-Fi with sacks of potatoes, saying the potatoes’ ‘interactions’ with electronic signals mimic those of the human body. All Boeing is concerned about is for people to get the strongest possible Wi-Fi signal in the air. So, now we humans are reduced to sacks of potatoes!

Boeing filled airplane passenger seats with 20,000 lbs (9,000 kg) of potatoes in sacks to test Wi-Fi.  One person has commented on WEEP News that perhaps the problems with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner have to do with Wi-Fi, however, it's not clear that Wi-Fi is actually available on these new planes, except for Qatar Airways.  View this Boeing video of Wi-Fi testing.

Vienna Medical Association Calls for Cell Phone-Free Zones in Public Spaces

from Alex Swinkels, International EMF Alliance, The Netherlands, 6 December 2012 (Google translation – the editor of this blog has taken the liberty of correcting the English.)

People need to be made aware of the use of mobile technology – recycling measures required

Vienna (OTS) – The Vienna Medical Association has called for the establishment of cell phone-free zones, similar to the smoke-free areas in public buildings. This was necessary in order both to minimize radiation exposure and to make people aware of the use of mobile technology, says the Head of Environmental Medicine at the Vienna Medical Chamber, Piero Lercher.

The judgment of the Italian High Court that excessive calls with mobile and cordless phones can cause an 80 percent disability, clearly demonstrates the related health risks. In its view, it was “extremely serious” that medical health advice and recommendations were ignored. Action must be generated by court decisions.

Global actions against the Big 6 agrochemical companies

1. Thousands Call on BASF, Bayer, and Syngenta to End Sales of Highly Hazardous Pesticides:  (Hamburg, 3 December 2012)  Every year, large numbers of people worldwide are victims of pesticide poisonings. BASF, Bayer, and Syngenta, the three largest global pesticide companies, are to a significant extent responsible for these pesticide poisonings. A broad alliance of some 10 000 people and 127 organizations from numerous countries have now joined PAN Germany to support a letter authored by PAN Germany and dated 3 December 2012 that calls on these multinational companies to discontinue sales of highly hazardous pesticides throughout the world. Decline in French Sperm Count Should Be Considered Global Warning

A study, published in the journal Human Reproduction, revealing a significant decline in sperm concentration among French men should be considered a health warning, and could be linked to environmental factors, say its authors. Regarding environmental factors, an article in the Tribune de Genève about the study stated: “Studies have mentioned a correlation with smoking, the consumption of saturated fats or even the use of Wi-Fi!” Perhaps Geneva is waking up!  Read the next post.
Decline in French sperm count should be considered global warning
by Liat Clark, wired.co.uk, 5 December 2012

A study revealing a significant decline in sperm concentration among French men should be considered a health warning, and could be linked to environmental factors, say its authors.

The paper, published in the journal Human Reproduction, calculated the results after comparing 26,600 samples from France's national register on in vitro fertilisation. The samples, derived from 126 assisted reproduction technology (ART) centres in France, covered the period 1989 to 2005 and were all from men whose partners had chosen in vitro because their fallopian tubes were blocked or missing -- the man's sperm was not considered an issue in any of these cases. This latter point is important because many male fertility studies have, over the years, solely analysed men with pre-existing fertility problems; this study should therefore be a truer representation of the wider population.

Italian Supreme Court Affirms Tumor Risk from Long-Term Use of a Cell Phone
Microwave News, 23 October 2012

ICEMS vs. ICNIRP; Hardell vs. Interphone

The Supreme Court of Italy has affirmed a ruling granting worker's compensation to a businessman who developed a tumor after using a cell phone for 12 years. This is the first time that a high court —in any country— has ruled in favor a link between mobile phone radiation and tumor development.

Innocente Marcolini, a financial manager at an industrial plant in Brescia in northern Italy, used cell and cordless phones for five-to-six hours a day for 12 years. Then one morning ten years ago, Marcolini, who was 50 years old at the time, sensed an unusual tingling in his chin while shaving. He was soon diagnosed as having a benign tumor on the trigeminal nerve, which controls facial muscles and sensations.

"Carcinogenic Technojunk" for Kids this Holiday Season

LeapFrog, LeapPad 2
Fourteen percent of Americans planned to give a LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet ($100) as a present, according to a Consumer Reports poll in 2011 . As one FB friend says about children's "learning tablets" – “more carcinogenic technojunk masquerading as educational tools”. We should write to consumer groups and toy manufacturers to remind them of their responsibility in protecting the health of children and the human rights and well-being of workers who make these gadgets in sweatshops in China. If the article on “cool new toy tablets” incites people to buy these for their kids, then they do not care at all about their child’s health.

Here is what “Consumer Reports” says about toy tablets:
Consumer Reports Talk About Toy Tablets(source: BSCKids, 9 December 2011)

“Consumer Reports have tested the latest in toy tablets. “Toy tablets don’t have all the whistles and bells that standard tablets do, but their learning apps and kid-friendly content make them ideal for children” said Paul Reynolds, electronic editor, Consumer Report. The tablets were put to trial by the Consumer Report’s lab to see how good they functioned and by children of the appropriate ages to see how much the kids were attracted to them. Each tablet has a color touch-screen display, a few loaded games, and apps. The tablets can be linked to a PC for new downloads and software upgrades. The Vici Tab is rechargable. The other tablets use AA batteries.

Atorvastatin (Generic Lipitor) Side Effects and Complications

Not only is there a problem with contaminated atorvastatin (generic Lipitor) but also it has serious side effects and complications.

Atorvastatin (Lipitor) Side Effects & Complications
People’s Pharmacy, 29 October 2012

It is not entirely clear why Lipitor became the most successful drug in the history of the pharmaceutical industry. Tens of millions of people have taken Lipitor to lower their bad LDL cholesterol. It is estimated that sales of this single drug brought in over $130 billion to Pfizer, its manufacturer. No other drug in history has ever come close to this mind boggling number.

Now that Lipitor has become available in its generic form as atorvastatin, it will no doubt continue to be taken by millions of patients, though the cost will clearly come down. Despite its popularity with physicians and its clear ability to bring cholesterol numbers down, there are some serious side effects to contend with. Many of these complications were not discovered until years after the drug was on the market.

Humanity's Challenge: The Winter Solstice of 2012

We are moving into the Year of the Snake,
where the Spleen energy field and the Heart
will move into prominence. These organ systems
cannot tolerate the assault of  artificial
electromagnetic fields.
With the roll-out of the Smart Meter Grid, “Americans are being unwittingly forced to participate in the rapid build out of a power grid based on faulty values of man-over-nature, man-over-time, and man-over-man beliefs. And, the primary targets of this aggression will be women and children, due to their heightened vulnerability to electromagnetic fields…

“[Either] we are living the closing chapter in a history of de-evolutionary choices, or we have reached the crucial turning point where the light of dawning consciousness turns humanity back to its rightful relationship with the true source of connection, power and energy… History will record the energetic tsunami in 2012 in one of two ways. We will unleash the largest wave of destructive technology ever known to mankind, or we will withdraw our energies from the consumer-driven model...”

I personally fear that we are indeed headed to destruction through our own greed for newer and better-performing technology, our ignorance of the health and ethical implications, and our lack of compassion for the vulnerability of more sensitive individuals, particularly children.

Dr. Olle Johansson's Letter on Electrohypersensitivity (EHS)

Dr. Olle Johansson

Recently, André Fauteux, Editor of the Canadian magazine, "Maison du 21e siècle" asked Dr. Olle Johansson to send him the Swedish Government document confirming that electrosensitivity is a recognized functional impairment.  Here is Dr. Johansson's reply.

"In essence," he writes, "no official bodies or governments are needed to recognize any functional impairment. The presence or lack of EHS studies are not a prerequisite for any functional impairments, on the contrary. Impairments are viewed from the point of the environment.

"No human being is in itself impaired, there are instead shortcomings in the environment that cause the impairment. Thus, it is the environment that should be “treated”!

"One way is through the introduction of the proper biologically-based EMF human exposure guidelines. This environment-related impairment view means that even though one does not have a scientifically-based complete explanation for the impairment electrohypersensitivity, and in contrast to disagreements in the scientific society, the person with electrohypersensitivity shall always be met in a respectful way and with all necessary support with the single goal to eliminate the impairment."

Mandatory Vaccination Programs : Switzerland and Poland

A referendum opposing the revised Epidemics Act has recently been launched by a part of the Swiss population. If this law were approved, the Swiss authorities could decide through the new law whether a health situation is exceptional and certain groups of people needed to be vaccinated (professionals, children etc.). These persons will no longer have a choice.  The referendum deadline is 17 January 2013.

Vaccinations do not prevent a substantial percentage of diseases. There is collusion with the pharmaceutical industry which has a strong presence in Switzerland.   From a legal point of view, vaccinations represent bodily harm. They are filled with heavy metals and other poisons. They have never been studied independently and through double blind tests, using placebos. They have many side effects. They have never been proven effective as a protective mechanism against disease. They are a massive charge for the immune system of a young person and his unprotected brain.

There was a similar debate regarding mandatory vaccination – and even medicating people prophylactically –  going on recently in Poland. In April 2012, Eliza Walczak addressed the Polish Senate Committee of Diseases. As a Jewish Holocaust survivor, she compares the new mandatory vaccine measures in Poland to Nazi crimes. We have already heard similar statements from experts about exposing large, vulnerable populations against their will, particularly children, to the electromagnetic radiation emitted by wireless technology. This is a serious violation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Nuremberg Code (directives for human experimentation).

Following are extracts from Eliza Walczak’s address to the Polish Senate. (I’ve taken the liberty of paraphrasing and correcting some grammatical errors in the translation.) The Chairman of the Senate called her speech, “scandalous”. It was published on Jane Burgermeister’s site www.birdflu666.wordpress.com which is worth looking at.

Warning to Young Women: Keeping a Cell Phone in the Bra Could Increase the Risk for Breast Cancer

A number of young women keep their cell phones in their bra.  This is a very dangerous habit because the radiation a cell phone emits might increase the risk for breast cancer.  Watch the following 3-minute special report from KTVU.com. California, and read the article, whose author talked to Dr. Devra Davis, epidemiologist.  Dr. Davis has teamed with medical doctors from a breast imaging center and a cancer-testing laboratory who are preparing a case study report on four young women with no known family history or risks for breast cancer.  These women developed clusters of breast cancer in highly unusual areas after carrying cell phones in their bras for years.

Breast cancer in young women is on the rise in Geneva and throughout Europe.  Could this be one of the causes?  We tend to disregard these warnings, believing we are invincible, and that this is nonsense, however, most cell phone manufacturers warn in accompanying operating manuals that the phone must be kept at least half an inch from the body.

Newsclip:  http://www.ktvu.com/videos/news/special-report-keeping-cell-phone-in-bra-may-lead/vhPF8/ - one young woman (age 21) diagnosed with breast cancer, had to have her breast removed.

Never Stick This In Your Bra!
Bottom Line Publications.com, Healthy Women

When you don’t have a purse or pocket but still want to stay connected to the world, nestling your cell phone into your cleavage for safekeeping may seem like a great solution. In fact, so many women now do this that there’s even a new type of bra with a pocket to hold a phone.

Death After Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine: Causal or Coincidental?

Researcher Lucija Tomljenovic
Research was recently carried out by two scientists at the University of British Columbia, Christopher Shaw and Lucija Tomljenovic to determine whether or not some serious autoimmune and neurological adverse reactions (ADRs) following HPV vaccination are causal or merely coincidental and to validate a biomarker-based immunehistochemical (IHC) protocol for assessing causality in case of vaccination-suspected serious adverse neurological outcomes. The study suggests that HPV vaccines containing HPV-16L1 antigens pose an inherent risk for triggering potentially fatal autoimmune vasculopathies.

This has implications for medical practice. Cerebral vasculitis is a serious disease which typically results in fatal outcomes when undiagnosed and left untreated. The fact that many of the symptoms reported to vaccine safety surveillance databases following HPV vaccination are indicative of cerebral vasculitis, but are unrecognized as such (i.e., intense persistent migraines, syncope, seizures, tremors and tingling, myalgia, locomotor abnormalities, psychotic symptoms and cognitive deficits), is a serious concern in light of the present findings. It thus appears that in some cases vaccination may be the triggering factor of fatal autoimmune/neurological events. Physicians should be aware of this association.

The study was published in October 2012 in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs and was posted on the site of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) America. Following is an article posted on straight.com about the study. The full study is available here.

Read also Dr. Mercola's article on the HPV vaccine.  As of mid-2012, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) has received 119 reports of death following HPV vaccination, as well as:  894 reports of disability, 517 life-threatening adverse events, 9,889 emergency room visits and 2,781 hospitalizations.

Free Wi-Fi at Geneva's University Hospital

Wi-Fi in hospital patients’ rooms can be harmful. In December 2008, my companion was placed in a seven-bed room after removal of his lung (diagnosis of mesothelioma – cancer of the pleura). His post-operative condition deteriorated : difficulties breathing and incisions which would not heal. The patient in the bed next to his was working the whole day on a Wi-Fi –connected computer.

In June 2008, Wi-Fi was installed at this hospital (HUG – Geneva’s university hospital) – 200 antennas deployed in all  care units of including the Maternity, Children’s Hospital, Palliative Care Service, and hospital for the elderly.

The article appearing in HUG’s magazine, « Pulsations » in June 2008 shows the level of ignorance of the Geneva medical profession concerning the risks of wireless technology. When I wrote to the Director-General of HUG in 2010, he replied, “Considering the absence of proof, demonstrated by actual scientific knowledge, that exposure to Wi-Fi antennas could cause health problems, but also proof of the total harmlessness of this technology, HUG does not foresee taking back its decision to offer this new benefit to its users, considering the advantages of having W-Fi at the hospital for patients’ comfort …”

Spike in "Aggressive" Brain Cancer in Denmark

The number of men diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most malignant type of brain cancer, has nearly doubled over the last ten years.  The Danish Cancer Society is saying that it has no idea what is causing this.  National cancer societies of course would say this, because cancer research, diagnosis and treatment bring in huge sums of money for the cancer industry.  These societies also receive funding from the telecoms industry.  For instance, members of the Board of Trustees of the American Cancer Society have included corporate executives from the telecoms, pharmaceutical, pesticide, media, and biotech industries.

Hans Skovgaard Poulsen, the head of neuro-oncology at Copenhagen University Hospital, is calling it a "frightening development."

The society is not linking the increase to cell phones or to anything else. "We have no idea what caused it," Poulsen said in a statement issued by the Danish Cancer Society on November 2.

Young Electrosensitive Person Commits Suicide

We must do all we can to raise awareness of the condition of electrosensitivity (ES) which is little understood by the general population and health professionals. This includes sharing experiences of ES with journalists. Faye Dobson is writing an article on ES and would like to hear from persons in the UK who could/would help (faye@catersnews.com). Martyn Halle, who writes on health for national newspapers, has approached ES-UK after reading the news about Michael Nield’s death. He hopes to publish a story about ES in the Mail on 11 November (m.halle@blueyonder.co.uk).

‘Zapping in head’ from mobiles led son to kill himself
by Jordan Day, Cambridge News, 6 November 2012

A university graduate committed suicide after a lengthy battle with a sensitivity to mobile phones, an inquest heard.

Oxford graduate Michael Nield suffered with electro sensitivity – the term used to describe someone who has an unhealthy sensitivity to a particular source of electricity.

In Michael’s case it was mobile phones and phone masts. He had to sleep with a microfibre tent over his bed to reduce the radiation.

Do Cell Phones and Tablets Affect Communication and Concentration in Hospitals and Doctors' Offices?

Courtesy of Thinkstock
“A resident observing the surgery takes a call on his cell phone. The scrub nurse flips through images of wedding dresses on her smartphone. The operating surgeon’s assistant steps in to ask a question about another patient. The anesthesiologist taps his foot in time to the beat of the music in his earbud. It’s just another day in the OR (operating room).” (From a doctors’ discussion on how distractions in the operating room threaten patient safety, article appearing in the journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.)

A commentary by Peter J. Papadakos, MD, anesthesiologist and director of critical care at the University of Rochester Medical Center in upstate New York, first published in Anesthesiology News, focused on his concerns that the non-medical use of wireless devices, such as smartphones and tablet computers, would be distracting. He also related his anecdotal experience of seeing OR staff surfing the Internet during a surgery. The New York Times later picked up and expanded upon this issue.

Hospitals and doctors’ offices, hoping to curb medical error, have invested heavily to put computers, smartphones and other devices into the hands of medical staff for instant access to patient data, drug information... , however the wealth of data on the screen — the “iPatient” — sometimes gets all the attention.

“You walk around the hospital, and what you see is not funny,” said Dr. Peter J. Papadakos, who added that he had seen nurses, doctors and other staff members glued to their phones, computers and iPads.   “You justify carrying devices around the hospital to do medical records,” he said. “But you can surf the Internet or do Facebook, and sometimes, for whatever reason, Facebook is more tempting...

“My gut feeling is lives are in danger.”

Electrosmog and Colony Collapse Disorder

Governments and the scientific community are “too quick to dismiss a link between colony collapse disorder (CCD) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from mobile phones and other sources.” The following article from the Alliance for Natural Health calls for readers to write to their MEPs (Members of the European Parliament), urging them to table questions in the European Parliament, asking why no research is being funded into links between EMRs and CCD.

Pesticides are a major contributor to bee colony collapse disorder (CCD), according to governments and the scientific community. But are they too quick to dismiss a link between CCD and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from mobile phones and other sources?

CCD and the threat to our food supply

Bee populations worldwide face an ongoing threat from CCD. Because human agriculture relies so heavily on bees for pollination, the world’s food supply looks increasingly insecure. Finding the cause and remedy for CCD is, therefore, an urgent priority.

National Awareness Campaign Launched in Switzerland Against Cyber-Bullying

A nationwide “Stop Cyber-Mobbing” campaign will be conducted  in all Swiss schools via billboards, television adverts, a Facebook page and information sessions. The next school campaign should be one on the health risks of cell phones and precautionary measures to take when using them. More Swiss probably remain ignorant of cell phone dangers for children than of cyber-bullying (half the population does not know what cyber-bullying is ).

Cyber-bullying pulled out of the shadows
swissinfo.ch and agencies, 22 October 2012

The [Swiss] youth organisation Pro Juventute has found that that one in five teens has been bullied online and most don’t know where to turn to for help. Bullying-related calls to its hotline have also jumped, prompting a national awareness campaign.

Pro Juventute’s emergency “147” telephone hotline, designed to serve young people in need, has reported a significant increase in calls from troubled teens who have become the targets of name-calling, teasing and verbal abuse via the internet.

Cyber-bullying is particularly threatening to teens because it continues away from school, is not monitored by adults and can often be conducted anonymously.

Food Makers Hook Kids on Mobile Games

Mobile apps are a new, popular and unregulated way to market candy and soft drinks to children. U.S. food companies are reaching children by embedding their products in simple and enticing games for touch-screen phones and tablets. A recent survey by research firm NPD Group found that 37% of 4- and 5-year-old Americans were using such mobile devices. Jennifer Harris, who directs research of marketing practices at the Yale Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, says "If children have their phone with them, they can be playing these games that are basically advertisements in school and basically 24/7."

One of the first food-branded mobile games sprang out of a 2009 brainstorming session at a small design firm in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Teresa Kiplinger, a partner at the firm, impulsively licked her iPhone. The screen responded. Within weeks, Ms. Kiplinger and her partner had a pitch for a longtime client, Dum Dum Pops maker Spangler Candy Co. of Bryan, Ohio. The app, "Dum Dums Lick-A-Pop," would let players ingest a virtual Dum Dum lollipop by licking their smartphone before a clock ran out. Spangler signed off, but Apple rejected the app, saying licking could damage the devices. Developers replaced licking with a vertical finger swipe and the result was "Dum Dums Flick-A-Pop."

(My thanks to Public Citizen for the recent articles posted here.  Consumer advocate, Ralph Nader has written, "Getting Steamed to Overcome Corporatism" which points the way to many such excellent consumer and activist sites.)

'Addictive' Cigarette Smoking Games on Smartphones Target Children

iPhone application "Puff Puff Pass" - Players pretend to smoke a
cigarette and then pass it to their friends.
Public health researchers at the University of Sydney found 107 applications on iPhones and Androids with pro-smoking messages, including 36 so-called smoking simulators. Many of the applications may be downloaded for free and target children. At least 6 million users downloaded the 10 Android simulators by February 2012.  At the same time, the University of Geneva has developed a smartphone application (“Stop-tabac”) to help persons stop smoking.

Addictive’ Cigarette Smoking Games on Smartphones Target Kids.
by Michaeleen Doucleff, NPR, 23 October 2012

You can do just about anything with your phone these days. Take an electrocardiogram. Confess your sins. Even smoke a cigarette

Yup, you read that correctly. Android and Apple offer apps that let you light and smoke a virtual cigarette. You simply blow into the microphone, or onto the screen, and an image of a cigarette glows red and "burns."

Some apps time how long it takes to puff the whole fag, while others have a virtual ashtray that pops up messages like, "Would be even better with a beer in your hand!"

Former Microsoft President, Canada, Says the Federal Government Has a Duty to Inform Canadians About Safety Concerns Related to Wireless Technology

Clegg is supporting Wendy Hoy's  walk to Ottawa, the
purpose of which is to bring attention to people who
suffer from electro-hypersensitivity linked to
cellphone tower signals.
"There is and will always be a use for technology in our lives, period. At the same time, I think we are learning more and more and more that you have to be careful...you have to use it safely," the former President of Microsoft Canada Frank Clegg says.   Cellphone manufacturers BlackBerry and Apple both feature fine print warnings in user manuals that advise users to keep all devices at least 15 mm away from the body during use. But Clegg says the Canadian Government should put obvious warning labels on wireless devices because most people don't read the fine print.  Clegg has established an organization (http://www.c4st.org/)  which provides consumer safety tips and scientific information about technology including cell towers, cellular phones and wireless Internet.

Government should tell Canadians about wireless safety: former Microsoft Canada president
by Kristy Kirkup, Sun News, 11 October 2012

OTTAWA — The former president of Microsoft Canada says the federal government has a duty to inform Canadians about safety concerns related to wireless technology.

"We have a responsibility as adults, as parents, as legislators to inform people so they can make intelligent decisions," Frank Clegg said in an interview with QMI Agency.

Apple: Champion of Programmed Obsolescence

With iPhone 5, 4S would become obsolete
(Itsuo Inouye/SIPA)
The dark side of the new iPhone 5 : the programmed obsolescence of this device which has a disastrous impact on the planet.

Apple’s iPhone 5: We Demand a Law Against Programmed Obsolescence of This Device
by Martine Laplante, President of “Amis de la Terre” (Friends of the Earth), Le Plus du Nouvel Observateur, 13 September 2012. Edited by Lisa Beaujour working with Henri Rouillier. Translated from French.

LE PLUS. Apple unveiled its new iPhone 5 Wednesday evening during a Keynote. Yet another model, sighs the association “Amis de la Terre”, which is alarmed by the disastrous consequences for the planet of products which are everthing but lasting.

HIGH-TECH. 13.3 million smartphones, 3.4 million tablets sold in France just in 2012! Appearing less than 5 years ago, these devices have imposed themselves on the market and into our lives. Advertised and marketed as indispensable, these electronic gadgets have an environmental impact that is inversely proportional to their size. Gold, silver, cobalt, tantalum or rare earths are necessary for their production.

Wi-Fi Risks in Schools: Letter Addressed by Barrie Trower to U.K. Minister for Schools

Read this excellent letter about Wi-Fi risks in schools, written by Barrie Trower, microwave expert, addressed to the Minister for Schools, United Kingdom, 13 October 2011.

Mr Gibb, Minister For Schools.
Date: 13/10/2011
Wi-Fi Risk in Schools.

Minister,

Following our discussion last Friday, please find enclosed the letter requested.

By 1976, thousands of Government research documents existed highlighting the health dangers of below-thermal (Wi-Fi) microwave irradiation. In this year, the U.S Government advised Western Governments to... 'not enforce stringent exposure standards as this would become unfavourable for industrial output.'

This directive exists today. The U.S Government listed both physiological and neuropathological illnesses from low-level microwave irradiation.

Concerning the above radiation:

Children are more vulnerable than adults due to immature immune systems, soft bones, the blood-brain-barrier being under-developed, damage to ovarian follicles and their size ( they absorb more radiation).

Mobile Phones May Trigger Alzheimer's: 2003 Study by Professor Leif Salford

Already in 2003, Swedish researcher Professor Leif Salford was saying that mobile phones “may trigger Alzheimer’s”. The researchers concluded: "We cannot exclude that after some decades of often daily use, a whole generation of users may suffer negative effects maybe already in their middle age."   Article from BBC News, 5 February 2003.

When brain cells degenerate and die, the brain markedly shrinks in some regions.  This image shows that a person
with Alzheimer's disease has less brain tissue (right) than a person who does not have the disease (left).
This shrinkage will continue over time, affecting how the brain functions. (source: ASPSYC1010 Wiki)

Mobile phones may trigger Alzheimer's

Mobile phones damage key brain cells and could trigger the early onset of Alzheimer's disease, a study suggests.

Researchers in Sweden have found that radiation from mobile phone handsets damages areas of the brain associated with learning, memory and movement.

Toronto Doctor Treats Patients for Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

"Could the guys in the tinfoil hats be right?"  They well could be … since taking the advice of an EMF expert to place aluminum foil beneath my rugs in the places where the radiation emitted from neighbors’ cordless DECT phones and Wi-Fi is highest, my body and mind are less stressed: I am sleeping better and have more energy . My suffering lasted over 3 years.

No end to debate over Wi-Fi health effects as Toronto doctor treats hypersensitive patients

by Steve Merti, Daily Brew, 13 August 2012

Could the guys in the tinfoil hats be right?

As society's dependence on wireless technologies grows, the concern that there are health risks attached to the saturation of the air with high-frequency radio waves (RF) is not going away, despite official claims those fears are groundless.

Dr. Riina Bray, an environmental health specialist at Women's College Hospital in Toronto, told the National Post she's treating two or three patients a week from ailments she links to Wi-Fi routers, cellphone towers and other radio-frequency sources.

Michael Repacholi Continues to "Work" With the Mobile Phone Industry, Encouraging Children to Use Wireless Devices

Photo:  Next-Up
In January 2008, Dr. Carlos Sosa, a medical doctor from Colombia, addressed a letter to Michael B. Mukasey, who was then serving as United States Attorney-General (November 2007 to January 2009). The letter concerned the crimes against humanity of Michael Repacholi, former director of the Electromagnetic Fields Project at the World Health Organization (WHO).

It would appear that not only did Repacholi control the WHO EMF project from its inception, but its main source of funding was the mobile industry, as explained in this article from Mast Sanity. “Repacholi states that he always followed the WHO rules on funding and that, “NO funds were EVER sent to me.” [His emphasis.]... As Microwave News has previously reported, Repacholi arranged for the industry money to be sent to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, where he used to work. The funds were then transferred to the WHO... Norm Sandler, a Motorola spokesman, has stated, “This is the process for all the supporters of the WHO program.” At the time, Motorola was sending Repacholi $50,000 each year. That money is now bundled with other industry contributions and sent to Australia by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF), which gives the project $150,000 a year. “What is the difference between sending money directly to the WHO and sending it via Australia?,” Repacholi was asked. He never responded. (Microwave News November 17th 2006 [here].)

Repacholi is still “working” for the mobile phone industry. At a recent GSMA industry conference (GSMA - or GSM Association - is an association of mobile operators and related companies which supports the standardizing, deployment and promotion of the GSM mobile telephone system), Repacholi encouraged parents to get their children to use wireless devices so that these children would not be left behind in the use of this technology. (See article, “Is Michael Repacholi the World’s Best Whirling Dervish?”) Repacholi has lobbied against the strict Swiss and Italian precautionary exposure limits and, as a member of the United Kingdom’s Stewart panel on mobile phones, has argued against the recommendation that children be discouraged from using mobile phones. HAARP, Weather-Altering, Earthquake-Making Machine?

What is HAARP?   The official story is: “The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an ionospheric research program jointly funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University and the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Its purpose is to analyse the ionosphere and investigate the potential for developing ionospheric enhancement technology for radio communications and surveillance purposes”. The largest legal AM radio antenna in North America is 50000 watts. HARRP is 72000 x 50000 AM radio antennas!

New Zealand earthquake, February 2011
What do they need all this power for?

In his interview, Barry Trower, microwave weapons expert, mentioned how HAARP could be used in micro-biological warfare. . “It is so easy now to bring total devastation and economic ruin to any country by microwaving it and bringing the [toxic] bacteria to life,” he said. (See Part 4 of the interview.)

Wake-Up World published an article entitled, “HAARP, Weather-Altering, Earthquake-Making Machine?” that sends a scary message. One of the videos in the article, “Feb 2011 – Christchurch NZ Earth Quake – Another HAARP Event?” shows that HAARP does a lot more than communication and surveillance.

“Only a small percentage of the military’s atmospheric modification projects are visibly obvious. What we can’t see is equally dangerous. The ionosphere, the earth and its inhabitants are continually bombarded with high frequency microwaves used to manipulate the charged atmosphere for weather modification, information gathering and for tectonic (earth-quake-producing) weaponry. Independent chemtrail researcher Clifford Carnicom confirms that we are also continuously subjected to extremely low electromagnetic frequencies (ELF) pulsing at 4 hertz multiples, frequencies known to profoundly affect human biological and mental functioning.”

Internet and Health: The Report of the Swiss "Conseil fédéral" Fails to Mention the Risks of Excessive Use of the Internet Accessed Through Wireless Technologies

The Swiss "Conseil fédéral" has just presented a report announcing that excessive Internet use can be addictive and have physical and psychological consequences. The report was undertaken at the request of members of the Swiss Parliament, specifically to look into cyber-addiction: the health effects of excessive Internet use and particularly, on-line games. Most of the time, Internet access is enabled through wireless technologies. It would thus be useful if the authorities launched an educational campaign concerning the health risks of using these technologies, especially for children and pregnant women: sensitize parents, teachers and other professionals, including physicians, and inform young persons.

Already in 2008, Physicians for the Environment (MfE), a group of 1,500 doctors in Switzerland, published information mentioning suspicion of the existence of a link between certain health problems and radiation emitted by wireless technology, such as mobile phones and Wi-Fi. Symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, difficulties with concentration and others were cited. MfE suggested precautionary measures: choose computer networks connected by cable, use the fixed network and a wired telephone for long conversations, switch off or disconnect devices and electrical installations when not in use.

Following are extracts from two articles about the Report, which was presented on 15 August 2012 to the Government.

Heavy Technology Use Linked to Fatigue, Stress and Depression in Young Adults

This article posted by one of the EMF advocacy groups on 2 August 2012, demonstrates that heavy use of cell phones and computers can lead to health problems in young adults. Heavy cell phone use increases sleep disorders in men and depressive symptoms in both men and women. Those constantly accessible via cell phones were the most likely to report mental health issues. “This is a growing and serious public health hazard that should be acknowledged and addressed by both the medical community and technology industry,” states the author, Dr. David Volpi.

Why not step away from this technology and enjoy more face-to-face contact?

Living with Radiation from Mobile Phone Towers in India

The “massive public health concern” of living with radiation from mobile phone towers is now being covered routinely by the mainstream media in India.  Thank you to the site, “In These New Times” for this article published in the Hindustan Times, New Delhi, on 26 July 2012.

Living with Radiation as a Backdrop by Rajat Arora

In 2000, Ashok Kaickar of Defence Colony’s D-block agreed to get a mobile phone tower installed on the terrace of his two-storey house. And it’s been nearly 12 years of living in regret.
“Back then, I did not know about the possible health hazards of radiation from mobile towers,” says Kaickar, 55, who runs a chain of gymnasiums in the city. “I got the tower erected after getting all the necessary permissions. Now I want it removed, but can’t. I have a 20-year contract with the company,” he said. A desperate Kaickar has approached the cellular operator Reliance and also written to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to allow him to remove the tower.

Wi-Fi Lawsuit Against Portland Schools Dismissed by Federal Judge

Not good news, however the plaintiff intends to appeal the decision.  Following the article is a summary of expert testimony given by Barrie Trower and Dr. David Carpenter, part of an article recently published in the Iowa Source, "Wi-Fi Damages Sperm, Harms Health".

Wi-Fi Lawsuit Against Portland Schools Dismissed by Federal Judge
by Helen Jung, published 20 July 2012 in The Oregonian

A federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit seeking to force Portland Public Schools to remove Wi-Fi installations from its schools.

The lawsuit, filed last year by Southeast Portland parent David Mark Morrison, argued that Wi-Fi exposes children to unacceptable levels of radiation over prolonged periods of time and impacts their health.

But U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman found that the lawsuit, while aimed at Portland Public Schools, also challenges the safety standards set by the Federal Communications Commission. The radiation levels emitted by its Wi-Fi networks are below the limits established by the FCC, Portland Public Schools argued.

Harmful Effects of GSM Waves Demonstrated on Ants and Protozoa

Thank you to Teslabel for the following Press Release, which was originally published on their site in French. (www.teslabel.be)  Original article in French.

Harmful Effects of GSM Waves Demonstrated on Ants and Protozoa

A first in Belgium: Studies conducted at the Université Libre de Bruxelles show clearly that GSM waves affect the memory and response to pheromones in ant colonies, and that they worsen the motility of cell membranes of protozoa.

(Brussels - 11/07/12) Hide this truth that I would not like to see … Anything to discredit these alarmist studies which prevent me from calling in peace. Reassure me. Tell me that all this is exaggerated and doesn’t concern me … - Such is the substance of the unspoken reaction of each person who continues to not want to face up to reality and refuses to take into account the progress of independent research.

In Belgium in 2008, the results of a doctoral thesis at the UCL were disclosed which had shown that rats chronically exposed to a weak level of microwaves lost memory and died prematurely. [1]

This time, a research team at ULB turned towards ant societies and single-celled organisms to study the effects of micro-waves from telecommunications on the living.
