Professor Dominique Belpomme: "Electromagnetic Fields Are Harmful to Health"

Dominique Belpomme, physician and professor of oncology: « Internationally, there is no doubt from scientists working independently : electromagnetic fields are harmful to health… We citizens are going to have to pay the price financially, and also a humanitarian price.”

Belpomme : “Electromagnetic Fields are Harmful to Health”

The oncologist Dominique Belpomme does not share the conclusions of the report of ANSES (French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health) on electromagnetic waves issued Tuesday morning [15 October]. According to him, prolonged use of a cell phone compounds the risks of Alzheimer’s Disease and brain cancer.

Tuesday morning, ANSES issued its report on the subject of electromagnetic fields. The Agency considers that exposure to electromagnetic waves – cell phones – can provoke biological changes in the body, but that available scientific data do not show a proven impact on health.

Dominique Belpomme does not mince his words. « Internationally, there is no doubt from scientists working independently : electromagnetic fields are harmful to health,” explains the oncologist, member of ARTAC (Association for Research and Treatments Against Cancer).

According to him, the report of ANSES is worth nothing

“The studies are not contradictory: certain ones are scientifically valid and others are not,” he explains in a direct attack against ANSES. “The tragedy today is that we have different reports from French agencies and we are in a pattern which is not validated at the international scientific level.”

“These reports will serve to fill the trashcans of History. They are of no interest since the first report of ANSES simply said that there is no risk.”

In its 2009 report, ANSES maintained to have reviewed 226 studies : 45% affirmed that waves had a biological effect, 55% said no.

A great risk of brain cancer for adolescents

Dominique Belpomme totally objects to the theory that there is no proven effect on health. “We know that electromagnetic fields when used in a prolonged fashion generate Alzheimer’s in older subjects and also in young persons, including some adolescents,” he explains. Regarding brain cancer: “It is the Interphone Study which said it: if you are less than 20 years old and you are using a cell phone for more than an hour a day for 5 to 10 years, you have 5 times the risk of a brain tumor.”

Electrosenstivity, a « real illness »

For the scientist, it is high time that the public authorities understand the issue. “We are facing a real public health problem which, by the fact that it is worldwide, will end one day in citizens having to pay the price, financially, and also a humanitarian price.”

Dominique Belpomme emphasizes an important point : electrosensitivity. According to him, it is indeed an illness, contrary to what some people are saying. “It is a question of real sick persons with objective tests which say this,” he explains. And he announces that the worst is yet to come: “These sick persons are only the tip of the iceberg."
