Passengers required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to submit to a body scan can legally refuse, according to Marc Rotenberg, President of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC).

EPIC v. The Department of Homeland Security (in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, 2012) is the prevailing case establishing the law on the constitutionality of TSA security screening practices involving AIT (short for Advanced Imaging Technology) body scans and alternative pat-down procedures. Rotenberg was lead counsel on the case.

EMF Protection – The Truth About Chips, Diodes, Neutralizers, Pendants, Amulets Etc.
Posted by Lloyd Burrell, electricsense.com, 31 August 2013

There’s hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t send me a message saying, “have you seen the xxx EMF harmonizer, does it work?” Or, “have you seen the xxx cell phone chip, does it work?” Or, “have you seen the xxx resonator?” And so on.

I reply and people then say “are you sure you don’t recommend it they’ve got research on their website, can you check their research?” They say “are you sure it doesn’t work there are lots of people that say it does.”

If you’re asking these kinds of questions and want to know what my answer is, then read on.

Suspects Mobile Phones Cause Cancer

Christian Blom lives most of the year in the country to avoid mobile phone
radiation.  This device measures radiation from the nearest base station.
This is a summary of the Google translation.  Christian Blom talks about his electro-hypersensitivy and subsequent cancer in the neck and throat from 10 years of cell phone use.  His doctors did not question him about cell phone use and did not want to know anything about it.  Afterwards, he was sent to a psychiatric clinic and became scared he would be classified as a madman.

Suspects mobile phones cause cancer
by Elin Von Wright, Helsinki, svenska.yle.fi/,  26 September 2014

Christian Blom was electrosensitive two days before midsummer 2003. He slowly began to feel worse and worse until he developed the disease six years later.

- I reacted to street dust and mold in our workplace and it had already been going on for a while. But it just got worse and worse. When connected, I realized how bad I was feeling by the time I used the phone several hours each day.

Korea's Thyroid-Cancer “Epidemic” — Screening and Overdiagnosis (and wireless phone use?)
November 5, 2014

According to today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, South Korea has experienced a thyroid cancer epidemic in recent years (see paper and Figure below).

"Thyroid cancer is now the most common type of cancer diagnosed in South Korea."The authors of this paper attribute the "epidemic" to a government-sponsored cancer screening program. As evidence, they report,

Insurance and Liability of Wireless Communication Carriers

This is an extremely important 12-page document prepared by the Maine Coalition to Stop Smart Meters giving evidence of the insurance and liability of wireless communication carriers.  Following are extracts of documents from Lloyds of London, SwissRe, and Vodafone.

PUC Docket 2011.262 Friedman on Remand Intervenor DW et al
Evidence 9 Insurability; Insurance and Liability of Wireless  Communication Carriers
Updates filing dates, links, and typos April 8, 2013 Item 464

Evidence 9 Insurability
9.0 Insurance and Liability of Wireless Communication Carriers

This category contains information about whether wireless companies can get insurance for claims made based on adverse effects on users’ health caused by their devices. The evidence is strong enough that the WHO, which tends to be a conservative organization, placed RF/EMF in the “possibly carcinogenic” category.  And plaintiffs claiming their health was harmed by exposure have won recent court cases. In addition, awareness about the issue of RF from cell phones causing adverse health effects is getting better, so insurance companies are watching. Of course, as more people have adverse effects  and identify them, awareness will naturally be increased. The 2011 categorization of RF as a possible carcinogen increases the concern as well.

Taiwan: High-schoolers Educate Ministry on Phone Addiction

High-schoolers educate ministry on phone addiction
Staff writer, with CNA, taipeitimes.com,
23 December 2015

High-school students attending a forum organized by the Ministry of Education’s Youth Development Administration have proposed a “no cellphone day,” saying smartphone addiction could alienate students from society.

At a forum on Sunday, 100 senior-high and vocational high-school students offered their suggestions to Minister of Education Wu Se-hwa (吳思華) and other officials on a variety of topics including learning and career planning, civic awareness, international perspectives, technology and smart living.

Internet and smartphone addiction could restrict students’ thinking, negatively affect their health and alienate them from other people, the students said.

They urged the ministry to designate a “no cellphone day” to raise awareness on mobile phone addiction.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About the Statin and Diabetes Connection

Pharmaceutical companies earn billions of dollars from the sale of statins:  one reason for your doctor not telling you about the statin-diabetes connection.  See this extract from the People's Pharmacy ("Billion Dollar Drugs are Dramatically Disappointing" (21 December 2015):

In its Statistical Brief #458 (November 2014) AHRQ reports on Trends in Statin Therapy among Adults (Age ≥ 18), United States, 2000 to 2011:

“The number of adults (age ≥ 18) who reported using prescribed statins increased from an average 17.6 million annually in 2000-2001 to 40.8 million in 2010-2011.”

The number of statin prescriptions filled by adults (age ≥ 18) increased from an average 102.2 million annually in 2000-2001 to 237.9 million in 2010-2011.

Among adults (age ≥ 18), annual total expenditures (in constant 2011 dollars) for all statins rose, on average, from $11.5 billion in 2000-2001 to $21.6 billion in 2010-2011.”

Google's Project Loon a Health and Environmental Disaster

"The gigahertz RF frequencies Google is using are close to terahertz frequencies, known to “unzip” DNA. These are very powerful frequencies. This will affect all living beings. The most vulnerable to DNA damage will be babies in utero, children and teenagers, who are going through rapid developmental changes at the cellular level."

Nina Beety: Google’s Project Loon a health and environmental disaster

by Nina Beety, Guest commentary, montereyherald.com, 19 December 2015

Google’s secretive Project Loon has a launch on Jan. 1 across the U.S. These will be cell towers in the sky across America. There have been no public hearings, and very little public awareness except in the tech world. No local or state permits have been granted. Most seriously, there has been no discussion on health impacts from this universal and increased radiation exposure, and there is no informed consent from the public.

Fukushima Decommission Chief: 'No Textbook' for Cleanup

Naohiro Masuda of Tokyo Electric Power Co.
(Asahi Shimbun file photo)
"In June, the government and TEPCO acknowledged the target dates in the official "road map" for decommissioning had to be pushed back by about two years. Now even the most optimistic projections estimate the work will take about half a century.... more delays could be in order. No one knows exactly where the melted nuclear debris is sitting in the reactors, let alone how exactly the debris might be taken out."

Fukushima decommission chief: 'No textbook' for cleanup
Associated Press / Asahi Shimbun,
15 December 2015

The man leading the daunting task of dealing with the Fukushima nuclear plant that sank into meltdowns in northeastern Japan warns with surprising candor: Nothing can be promised.

How long will it take to decommission the three breached reactors, and how will it be accomplished, when not even robots have been able to enter the main fuel-debris areas so far? How much will it ultimately cost? Naohiro Masuda, tapped last year as chief of decontamination and decommissioning for plant owner Tokyo Electric Power Co., acknowledges he is a long way from answering those questions definitively.

"This is something that has never been experienced. A textbook doesn't exist for something like this," Masuda told The Associated Press in an interview at TEPCO's Tokyo headquarters on Dec. 14.

Japan: Tokyo Contaminated and Not Fit for Habitation, Doctor Says

Tokyo contaminated & not fit for habitation, doctor says
by Susie Greaves, permaculturenews.org,
25 September 2014

All 23 districts of Tokyo contaminated with radiation, worse than at Chernobyl after the accident, and blood cells of children under ten are showing worrying changes; the WHO, the IAEA & the Japanese government cannot be trusted.

In July 2014 Dr Shigeru Mita wrote a letter to his fellow doctors to explain his decision to move his practice from Tokyo to Okayama city in the West of Japan [1]. In it, he appeals to their sense of duty to answer the anxieties of parents in Japan who do not believe the information coming from the authorities. He says “I must state that the policies of the WHO, the IAEA or the Japanese government cannot be trusted.” and “if the power to save our citizens and future generations exists somewhere, it does not lie within the government or any academic association, but in the hands of individual clinical doctors ourselves.”

Update On Lawsuit For Student With Wi-Fi Sensitivity in Massachusetts School ADA Complaint

12/2015 Update On Lawsuit For Student With Wi-Fi Sensitivity in Massachusetts School ADA Complaint
safetechforschoolsmaryland.blogspot.ca, 20 December 2015

Update: A NEW amended complaint has been filed in the case of the boy who developed a debilitating sensitivity to the Wi-Fi networks in a private Massachusetts school.

"Instead of working with the parents in a constructive way to solve the problem caused by its Wi-Fi emissions and the resulting symptoms suffered by G at Fay, Fay has engaged is a series of hostile actions toward G and his parents. Fay has refused to make any meaningful accommodations for or provide any meaningful assistance to G."

After more robust School Wi-Fi was installed in Spring 2013, a 12 year old boy started to experience troubling symptoms, which he reported to his parents when he came home from school. These included severe headaches, itchy skin, and rashes. The school nurse indicated that various children in the same classes were reporting increased headaches, dizziness, nausea and chest pressure. The symptoms were present whenever he was at school. In August 2015 the parents filed a federal complaint stating that the school has failed to provide reasonable accommodations for the child as required by the ADA. Read more about the initial complaint here.

Peer-Review Fraud — Hacking the Scientific Publication Process

N Engl J Med 2015; 373:2393-2395
December 17, 2015
DOI: 10.1056/NEJMp1512330

In August 2015, the publisher Springer retracted 64 articles from 10 different subscription journals “after editorial checks spotted fake email addresses, and subsequent internal investigations uncovered fabricated peer review reports,” according to a statement on their website.1 The retractions came only months after BioMed Central, an open-access publisher also owned by Springer, retracted 43 articles for the same reason.

“This is officially becoming a trend,” Alison McCook wrote on the blog Retraction Watch, referring to the increasing number of retractions due to fabricated peer reviews.2 Since it was first reported 3 years ago, when South Korean researcher Hyung-in Moon admitted to having invented e-mail addresses so that he could provide “peer reviews” of his own manuscripts, more than 250 articles have been retracted because of fake reviews — about 15% of the total number of retractions.

The Death Over Our Heads: Energy Saving Light Bulbs

The death over our heads:  energy saving light bulbs are poisonous to the brain, nervous system, liver, kidney and heart
naturalmedication.org, 8 December 2015

Many of us in the effort to save energy and money, replaced our old standard light bulbs with environmentally-friendly with the new generation energy saving light bulbs. However, the new generation of energy efficient light bulbs are so toxic that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created an emergency protocol you need to follow in the event of a bulb breakage, due to the poison gas that is released. If broken indoors, these light bulbs release 20 times the maximum acceptable mercury concentration into the air, according to a study conducted by researchers from the Fraunhofer Wilhelm Klauditz Institute for German’s Federal Environment Agency.

GM insects and moral blackmail
by Jack Stilgoe and Sarah Hartley, The Guardian, 17 December 2015

Today’s report from the House of Lords argues that GM insects have the potential to, among other things, control diseases like malaria and dengue. But, in overlooking the uncertainties of the technology, it is irresponsibly lopsided.

In October this year, we were both called as witnesses to the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee. The committee was looking at the potential of genetically modified insects and asking, among other questions, “Is there a role for responsible innovation approaches?” From their answer, it would appear that they think not. In choosing to swallow the promise of this technology without questioning its downsides, their report represents an unsophisticated form of moral blackmail.

Cancer Studies Clash Over Mechanisms of Malignancy

The proliferation of blood cells in leukaemia is just one
example of unchecked tissue growth associated with cancer -
but the extent to which external and internal factors drive
this process is open to debate.
The full text of the study is available through links in this article.  "Prevention" and "environmental factors" is still viewed mostly as related to life-style:  smoking, alcohol abuse, exposure to UV radiation, obesity, diet...

Cancer studies clash over mechanisms of malignancy
by Heidi Ledford, nature.com,
16 December 2015

Debate surrounds relative importance of environmental and intrinsic factors.

Most cases of cancer result from avoidable factors such as toxic chemicals and radiation, contends a study published online in Nature on 16 December (S. Wu et al. Naturehttp://dx.doi.org/10.1038/nature16166; 2015). The paper attempts to rebut an argument that arose early this year, when a report in Science concluded that differences in inherent cellular processes are the chief reason that some tissues become cancerous more frequently than others (C. Tomasetti and B. Vogelstein Science 347, 78–81; 2015).

Finnish Education Professor's Warning: Wireless Technology in Schools May Lead to a Global Epidemic of Brain Damages

"The worst scenario is when many tablets are in use at the same time and in the same room, as in schools, because they continually search to connect to the same wifi-modem. It’s like every iPad is shouting at the same time to the modem and this electromagnetic smog just gets louder and louder. That’s when it becomes particularly harmful. How would kids know if their teachers do not understand the risks?"

Professor Rainer Nyberg changed his opinion of wireless technology in March 2013. At that time he had been lecturing in Finland and Sweden for many years and had written books about the uses and benefits of online learning. In this interview, for TV-Finland’s Channel, he explains how he found out about the health risks directly linked to wireless emissions from the technology he had assumed would only have positive effects.

Posted by: Lloyd Burrell, naturalhealth365.com, 11 December 2015

(NaturalHealth365) 15-year-old Jenny Fry was found hanged in woodland in June this year. According to her parents she suffered from electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), which caused her to suffer diverse symptoms including tiredness, headaches and bladder problems.

An allergic reaction to WiFi in her school made living miserable

An inquest heard that it was her allergic reaction to her school’s WiFi that made her life a misery. Her mother Debra told the hearing that Jenny was severely affected by the wireless internet connectionsat Chipping Norton School in Oxfordshire, England, where she was a pupil.

After becoming increasingly distressed by her symptoms, which were never investigated by a doctor, Jenny Fry was found hanged in Brooke Woods, near her home on June 11 this year.

It’s time for doctors to apologise to their ME patients
by Dr Charles Shepherd, The Telegraph,

For too long the medical community has dismissed 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome' as a mental illness which can be cured with therapy and exercise

Back in 1955, a mysterious polio-like illness affected 262 doctors and nurses at London’s Royal Free Hospital. The hospital had to close for just over three months.

The outbreak was written up in The Lancet and a new neurological disease entered medical language: myalgic encephalomyelitis, or ME, as it still remains in the WHO Classification of Diseases. "Myalgic" referred to the muscle symptoms; "encephalomyelitis" referred to the various neurological symptoms.

Others were not convinced that ME was a neurological disease, and two decades later two psychiatrists, without interviewing any of the patients, wrote a paper for the British Medical Journal where they concluded that the Royal Free outbreak was due to mass hysteria.

I produced the general audience-oriented book The Autism Revolution: Whole Body Strategies for Making Life All It Can Be (Harvard Health Publications/Random House, 2012) and continue to pursue autism brain and infancy research at the interface of metabolism and electrophysiology.

My approach to autism has been rooted in my own research findings, in my clinical work, and in several decades of study prominently featuring systems theory and other wide-ranging interdisciplinary approaches.

Why Dr. Devra Davis Wants the World to Hang Up and Take Notice

Devra Davis uses an old-school handset
to get her message across.

Dr. Devra Davis is particularly horrified by the enrolment of infants in their parents' gadgets. "There is no reason whatsoever that anybody should be giving a cell phone to an infant in the crib, yet there are thousands of apps for babies in cribs," she observes. "If you must give a cell phone to a toddler, at least make sure it is in flight mode."

Why Devra Davis wants the world to hang up and take notice
by Ian Cuthbertson, Sydney Morning Herald,
12 December 2015

American scientist Devra Davis has an impressive record in public health, helping to expose the dangers of tobacco, asbestos and passive smoking. Next on her list? The always-on, every-present mobile phone.

When I meet Devra Davis in the foyer of a waterfront hotel in Sydney's Woolloomooloo, there's a moment when her siege mentality shows. The tireless American campaigner on the dangers of mobile phone radiation, who believes they should be used at all times as far from the body as possible, is posing for photographs with clunky retro handsets. She always carries three types with her in her handbag, including these comically colourful old-school models. Asked by the photographer to hold one to each ear, she baulks. "Don't make me look like Mickey Mouse," she says. "I don't want to look like a quack."

"Merchants of Doubt": Book Review

In the 1960s, when TV drama Mad Men is set, the tobacco
industry argued that lung cancer was caused by a number
of environmental factors, even though it knew there was a
link with smoking.  Photo:  Everett Collection / Rex Feature
"In these campaigns, a common strategy is evident: discredit the science, spread confusion and promote doubt... Real science is dismissed as "junk" while misrepresentations are offered in its place."  [Sound familiar?]

Merchants of Doubt by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M Conway
by Robin McKie, The Guardian,

This exposé of the coterie of rightwing scientists hell-bent on destroying the cause of environmentalism is outstanding

Rachel Carson is generally viewed as an environmental heroine, a courageous campaigner whose book, Silent Spring, alerted the world to the dangers of the indiscriminate use of pesticides. Hers was a success story, the tale of a woman who highlighted a serious problem – that the anti-mosquito agent DDT was building up in the food chain where it was killing millions of birds and animals – and who helped introduce a global ban on use of the chemical.

At least that is the common appreciation of Carson. However, a brief search of her name on the internet today produces an unexpected response. According to many websites, Carson – by all accounts a pleasant, amiable woman – was a mass murderer who killed more people than the Nazis. This dramatic claim is based on her campaign against DDT, which, it is alleged, has led to the deaths of countless Africans from malaria.

James Hansen, father of climate change awareness, calls Paris talks 'a fraud'
by Oliver Milman, The Guardian,

The former Nasa scientist criticizes the talks, intended to reach a new global deal on cutting carbon emissions beyond 2020, as ‘no action, just promises’

Mere mention of the Paris climate talks is enough to make James Hansen grumpy. The former Nasa scientist, considered the father of global awareness of climate change, is a soft-spoken, almost diffident Iowan. But when he talks about the gathering of nearly 200 nations, his demeanor changes.

“It’s a fraud really, a fake,” he says, rubbing his head. “It’s just bullshit for them to say: ‘We’ll have a 2C warming target and then try to do a little better every five years.’ It’s just worthless words. There is no action, just promises. As long as fossil fuels appear to be the cheapest fuels out there, they will be continued to be burned.”

Japan to consider ocean disposal of nuclear waste
The Asahi Shimbun, 12 December 2015

The industry ministry will consider the feasibility of burying high-level radioactive waste from nuclear power plants under the seabed, which a working panel said Dec. 11 could be a “highly appropriate” solution.

In an interim report on disposal methods of highly contaminated materials from spent nuclear fuel, the panel said such waste could be disposed of in adjacent waters within 20 kilometers of the coastline.

It called the disposal method relatively realistic because the circulation of groundwater at sea is not as strong as on land. The panel said the site should be created in adjacent waters so that nuclear waste can easily be transported by ships.

WHO Soon To Classify Aging As A Disease, Opening The Flood Gates For New Pharmaceuticals

WHO Soon To Classify Aging As A Disease, Opening The Flood Gates For New Pharmaceuticals
by Marco Torres, preventdisease.com,
13 November 2015

We have new pharmaceuticals being introduced every year for fictitious and nonsensical diagnoses such as Mathematics Disorder, Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Orthorexia Nervosa (healthy eating) and so many other inventions called diseases for the sole purpose of selling more drugs. In what many critics are calling lunacy of unimaginable proportions, The World Health Organization (WHO) now plans to lay down the framework that will set the precedent for classifying aging, something that should be embraced and celebrated, into a disease with elaborate protocols expected to be finalized in 2018.

Most people in modern times have been somewhat unanimous that wrinkles, grief and homosexuality are not diseases, although if you ask the WHO, all of the above may soon be classified as a disease given enough time.

Still in a Crib, Yet Being Given Antipsychotics
by Alan Schwarz, The New York Times,
10 December 2015

Andrew Rios’s seizures began when he was 5 months old and only got worse. At 18 months, when an epilepsy medication resulted in violent behavior, he was prescribed the antipsychotic Risperdal, a drug typically used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults, and rarely used for children as young as 5 years.

When Andrew screamed in his sleep and seemed to interact with people and objects that were not there, his frightened mother researched Risperdal and discovered that the drug was not approved, and had never even been studied, in children anywhere near as young as Andrew.

“It was just ‘Take this, no big deal,’ like they were Tic Tacs,” said Genesis Rios, a mother of five in Rancho Dominguez, Calif. “He was just a baby.”

New Zealand: Complaint Upheld Over 'Cell Phone Radiation Shield' Product

Complaint upheld over 'cell phone radiation shield' product
by Nicholas Jones, New Zealand Herald political reporter, nzherald.co, 10 December 2015

A complaint has been upheld against a website selling a "radiation shield" it claimed would protect users from cancers caused by cell phones.

The website, Life Energy Solutions, included a page titled "Do Cell Phones Give you Cancer?" which was used to advertise its products -- a "Cell Phone Radiation Shield", a "Nu-Me Protective Pendant" and a "Pyramid Energy Balancer". It also offered an electromagnetic field (EMF) testing kit.

The page included claims that cell phone use caused cancer and these products could shield users from EMF and radiation.

Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance: Abstracts of Papers Published in December 2015 Issue of "Reviews on Environmental Health"

UPDATE (April 2016):  Please note, the "EUROPAEM EMF Guideline 2015 for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of EMF-related health problems and illnesses" has been retracted.  We are in touch with the principal author who will alert us to its re-publishing.

We would like to draw the attention of readers to the special December 2015 issue (Volume 30, Issue 4) of "Reviews on Environmental Health" on idiopathic environmental intolerance (Editor: Dr. David O. Carpenter).   Abstracts are available by clicking on the titles of the reviews below.

David O. Carpenter* and Dominique Belpomme

This issue of Reviews on Environmental Health consists of invited papers on several syndromes of uncertain etiology but ones that pose serious and severe debilification and interference with quality of life for those affected.  Often in aggregate called “idiopathic environmental intolerance” they include electromagnetic hypersensitivity, multiple chemical sensitivity, chronic  fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Gulf War Illness and likely some others less well defined.  All have in common fatigue, pain (especially headaches and joint and muscle pain), often altered cognitive function, cardiac problems, and impaired mobility and balance.  Often, but not always, some specific event or exposure triggers the initiation of the syndrome.  Because the symptoms are relatively non-specific, patients may unfortunately be referred to psychiatric rather than medical care.  There are few effective treatments other than reducing exposure to triggering environmental factors.  There is increasing world-wide awareness that these are real diseases that affect a significant percentage of the population, but still attract significant controversy.  We hope that these peer-reviewed publications will not only stimulate awareness of the problem but also stimulate science-based research on treatment regimes for symptomatic relief and reversal of the disease processes.  All of these pathologic disorders should be recognized by the scientific and medical communities and international health institutions.  This issue presents state-of-the-art reviews of the scientific advances in the pathophysiologic understanding of these disorders for medical practitioners and research scientists.

The Real Reason Electronics Are Affecting Your Sleep

The Real Reason Electronics Are Affecting Your Sleep
by Peter Sullivan, 10 December 2015

Many people are now noticing that they do not sleep well after using electronic devices late at night. Some have attributed the sleep disturbance to exposure to blue light, since it is stimulating and is known to reduce melatonin levels at night. But that is only one part of the problem.

It is important to understand that wireless radiation and EMF (electromagnetic fields) emitted by these devices are basically light with a frequency that is below that which our eyes can perceive. We know that exposure to EMF can also draw down our melatonin levels, just like exposure to visible light at night. So, it may be helpful to think of wireless and EMF as invisible lights that should be turned off at night before bed, just like we naturally turn off visible lights.

Here are some basic tips for reducing exposure at night:

A pineapple pesticide that made its way into milk in Hawaii also made its way into men's brains, and those men were more likely to develop Parkinson's disease, a new study finds.

It's the latest in a very long series of studies linking various pesticides to Parkinson's, which is caused by the loss of certain brain cells.

And the study also seems to support a mystifying observation: smokers seem to be protected against Parkinson's.

Activity trackers and smartwatches are going to have to get a lot better to be more than a niche product

If you managed to put down your credit card during Black Friday, last week’s online shopping free-for-all was a remarkable barometer of the items that retailers are desperately trying to get rid of.

Among the usual electronics detritus – last year’s TVs, low-end laptops and sat-navs – this year we saw another product whose prices were being slashed by 50pc or more: wearable technology.

Welcome to the Home of the Electrosensitive

Welcome to the home of the electrosensitive
by Patrick Baumann, illustre.ch,
1st December 2015

In Zurich, an apartment building, the first of its kind in Europe, accommodates persons suffering from electromagnetic or chemical allergies. Report on a true five-story Faraday cage.

At first sight, nothing distinguishes this apartment building with a sable-colored exterior, located in a rural neighborhood, from another building. We are on the heights of Leimbach, 15 minutes from downtown Zurich. Christian Schifferle awaits us in front of the first anti-allergy building in Europe, reserved for persons suffering multiple chemical hypersensitivity (MCS) and electrosensitivity. "Come dressed in the most natural clothing possible, no perfume and of course, switch off your cell phone," he tells us. He keeps his mask on, even inside the building. Our odors are disturbing, he explains, even the battery of the Jean Revillard's camera emits a slight electromagnetic field. A strange object of plastic and steel placed on the table confirms it. "The guardian", he smiles. A dosimeter, a sort of Big Brother of waves which tracks the least suspect volt. Very useful to all the residents of this very special building.

Permanently tired
At 59, Christian Schifferle is president of the foundation at the origin of the building of this unique place in Switzerland. He does not recall a single day when he did not suffer from allergies. Everything assaulted this man with fine features: paint, perfume, cleaning products, cigarettes. Spending half an hour in a department store rife with Wi-Fi terminals is for him hell on earth. "I even thought of suicide", he confessed, unfolding his long legs. Being electrosensitive, or MCS, in a modern world saturated with waves that are more and more powerful and invasive, is like being permanently dead. And misunderstood by his entourage. "This building symbolizes our release from invisibility", he says. This true five-story Faraday cage completed in December 2013 cost 6 million. The quality of the air, the absence of antennas and the proximity of Uetilberg Mountain played a key role in the selection of its location.

Young Children Are Better Off Playing Outside Than Using Educational Tablet Apps

Young children are better off playing outside than using educational tablet apps
edmontonjournal.com, 2 December 2015

Electronic devices aimed at boosting the brain power of young children could be doing more harm than good, researchers at the University of Alberta have found.

Most studies into the impact of watching TV or using electronic toys and apps have determined time spent in front of screens doesn’t help brain development of pre-schoolers and might hurt it, physical education and recreation assistant professor Valerie Carson said Wednesday.

Cell Phones and Breast Cancer - Bras: The No Phone Zone

Dr. June Chen, a Los Angeles radiologist, was diagnosing more and more of her young patients with cancer.  "It's very unusual for women in their 20s and 30s to have breast cancer, period, let alone such extensive breast cancer, and these women are vehemently telling us that they wore their cell phones over the area, directly over the area, where they subsequently developed this extensive breast cancer, and they're telling us they wore these on a routine and regular basis."

Cell phones & breast cancer - bras:  the no phone zone

thescienceofeating.com, 15 February 2015

The talk about cell phones and cancer connection has been discussed for years now, but most still wonder if there's a real association and concern. One possibility does appear to exist, at least among certain women, and it all depends on where they carry their cell phone.

Thousands, of not millions of women - especially young ones, choose to keep their cell phones in their bra. This seems like the most convenient solution, because it allows women to ditch their purse and become hands-free.

Causing more need for storage is the fact that many womens' clothes come without pockets, so if you don't have a purse, the bra is an obvious choice. Also in noisy environments, it's harder to hear cell phone ring tones, so women like placing their cell phones on vibrate mode and placing it in their bras to continue receiving calls.

A recent survey reveals 40% of college females put their cell phone in their bra at least some time during the day, and 3% report doing it for more than 10 hours a day. However, Dr. John West, a Los Angeles breast surgeon, said women need to stop this practice stating, "We must make the bra a no phone zone," he said.

Cell Phone Dangers: Public Deception Trumps Public Health (Part 1)

Thorner:  Cell phone dangers:  public deception trumps public health (Part 1)
by Nancy Thorner, Illinois Reivew,
2 December 2015

When trying to promote the safety of a product, industry will often compare the safety of their new product to other products already considered safe. Such is the case with ‘smart meters’, often compared to cell phones, despite much evidence that smart meters pose a risk to health, invade one’s privacy, and are potential fire hazards. Might cell phones, those ubiquitous, beloved objects of necessity in today's society be anything other than safe?

"Cell phones cause cancer" declared attorney Jimmy Gonzalez, in front of the Pembroke Pines, Florida City Council. "It should become crystal clear that cell phones do cause cancer and that the American people are not being properly warned about cell phones."

New Study: Carrying a Cell Phone in a Backpack Leads to Blood Abnormalities

New Study: Carrying a Cell Phone in a Backpack Leads to Blood Abnormalities
by emily, Electromagnetic Health Blog
17 January 2015

There is a growing body of scientific evidence of brain cancer risk from cell phone use. People have been long been advised to use a headset or speakerphone to keep the Radiofrequency (RF) radiation away from the head. Distance lowers the risk, due to the fact that the signals decrease over distance according to the inverse square law. This can also lessen electrosensitivity symptoms, such as headaches, concentration problems and fatigue. But, it turns out, according to a new pilot study, these protective measures may not be adequate to prevent biological consequences. Further precautionary steps when using cellular and wireless devices may be in order.

New research, reported in the journal of the Weston A. Price Foundation, Wise Traditions, January 16, 2015, shows the act of carrying a cell phone (smart phone) in a receptive mode in a backpack is sufficient to create disturbing changes in a person’s blood, without the cell phone being used.

Brain Tumor Rates Are Rising in the US: The Role of Cell Phone & Cordless Phone Use
saferemr.com, 23 November 2015

One in 161 Americans (0.62%) will be diagnosed with brain or other central nervous system (CNS) cancer during their lifetime according to the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States.

The risk is greater for males (1 in 144 or 0.69%) than females (1 in 182 or 0.55%): About three out of four people (74%) who develop brain or CNS cancer will die from this disease.

The risk of being diagnosed with a non-malignant (i.e., non-cancerous) brain or CNS tumor is about twice as great (14.75 vs. 7.23 per 100,000 per year).
