Norway: Nkom Says 18 Child Smart Watches Fail Norwegian Safety Documentation Standards

Nkom says 18 child smart watches fail Norwegian safety documentation standards
telecompaper.com, 16 January 2018

(photo from electrosensible.info)
Norwegian telecoms regulator Nkom said it had examined eighteen models of smart watch for children, and found that not a single one of them complied with national regulations on documentation for radio equipment safety. It said the dealers and importers had not carried out sufficiently thorough checks of the devices before bringing them to market. Nkom looked at the devices themselves, their packaging, documentation and customer information.

Nkom said the shortcomings ranged from the absence of the 'CE' European safety standard marking, lack of manufacturer or type designation, and lack of testing documentation. Many of them lacked any indication of radiation testing.

Debate over iPhone use by young people reflects the misgivings some in the industry feel toward smartphones' ubiquity

A tussle this week between prominent investors and Apple Inc. over iPhone use by young people comes amid a nascent re-evaluation of the smartphone’s social consequences within the industry that spawned it.

The smartphone has fueled much of Silicon Valley’s soaring profits over the past decade, enriching companies in sectors from social media to games to payments. But over the past year or so, a number of prominent industry figures have voiced concerns about the downsides of the technology’s ubiquity.

New Fitbit-Style Device Monitors Baby Biometrics While Bathing Infants in Electromagnetic Radiation

"The thought of hooking up a tiny baby to electronic devices wirelessly to track and then transmit their vital statistics is setting a very dangerous precedent and that is something that should give people pause. The amount of personal data that is already available about people is extremely concerning, and to start collecting that data and normalize recording this information from the cradle is a very slippery slope... When you also throw the dangers of wireless exposure into the mix, parents might want to think very carefully before hooking these devices onto their babies."

Parents now urged to connect their BABIES to smartphones: New Fitbit-style device monitors baby biometrics while bathing infants in EMFs
by Isabelle Z., newstarget.com, 11 January 2018

One big fear for many new parents is sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), a mysterious illness that causes babies less than a year old to die suddenly and for unexplained reasons, usually during their sleep. To help allay those fears, scientists are developing a new gadget that can transmit vital stats to parents’ smartphones. It sounds like a great technological advancement, but are there reasons to be concerned about the idea of connecting babies to electronic devices that track them and broadcast their vital stats?

Kids' Cellphone Addiction Is Parents' Problem Not Apple's

Our comment:  Yes, parents are partly responsible for their children's cell phone addiction.  No child should be given a cell phone before age 14.  It is not only addiction that is a problem, but also the excessive amount of radiation being emitted by many cell phones. Manufacturers and regulatory agencies are misleading the public on this issue.  Read the articles under the category "Phonegate" on this blog. And protect your children!

Ron Jackson: Kids' cellphone addiction is parents' problem not Apple's

The American entrepreneurial spirit is something to behold. It is possessed by individuals who have an abundance of drive, vision, versatility, persuasiveness and an affinity to take risks. From the single entity businesses that carve out a local niche to those that grow into international icons, they create or provide a product that consumers want and are willing to pay a fair price for it.

Sometimes, those ideas grow and grow and grow into things consumers don't just want but, ultimately, believe they need. Carving out a sustainable, profitable market share can be the ultimate reward. But even that reward can become a risk. On those rare occasions when the demand for a product reaches a point when consumers irresponsibly use a product, history has shown it can be the entrepreneur who bears the liability.

Microwave Radiation Hazardous to Humans

"Mainstream news media chooses to remain largely silent on this whole despicable issue."

Microwave radiation hazardous to humans
by Hans Karow, Letter to the Editor, e-know.ca, 14 January 2018

Out of concern for the public’s health and safety, US physicians created a website for safe technology in December 2017, which states, in part: “We are physicians and professionals whose mission is to provide trusted leadership in promoting healthy environments through the safer use of technology.”

It is only a matter of time until B.C. physicians do so as well. Incomprehensibly, the previous BC Liberal government allowed Telus to install in cancer clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, etc. entire suites of microwave radiation-spewing wireless technology, e.g., Wi-Fi routers, cell phones, cordless phones, Bluetooth headsets, tablet and laptop computers, ‘smart’ meters, etc.!

This travesty is possible only because:

a) Mainstream news media chooses to remain largely silent on this whole despicable issue, as it has for the past 50+ years!

b) Health Canada, over the same 50+ years, has allowed itself to be ‘captured’ by the wireless telecommunications companies.

Sick from Radiation: Testimonies from Electrohypersensitive People in the Netherlands

Sick from Radiation
by Florian van Rees, Algemeen Dagblad, 14 January 2018

(translated from Dutch by the authors of EMF SA (emfsa.co.za)

Those with electrohypersensitivity are often misunderstood and accused of being crazy. These are the people who are getting sick from cell towers and wi-fi. Photographer Koen Verheijden compiled a photo series of people suffering with symptoms ranging from insomnia, ringing in the ears, a rushed feeling, allergies, headaches, extreme fatigue. It is only a sampling of the complaints that thousands of Dutch people ascribe to the radiation to which they are exposed to. They have EHS, which stands for electromagnetic-hypersensitivity, or over-sensitivity to radiation.

Radiation comes from high-voltage pylons and plug-in devices (low-frequency electromagnetic fields) and high frequency electromagnetic fields like Wi-Fi, GSM, UMTS and LTE(3G and 4G). The latter sources are problematic, because the radiation is almost impossible to circumvent, such as Wi-Fi, GSM, UMTS and LTE (3G and 4G). More and more high-frequency electromagnetic fields are coming in at a faster rate – Are there any places without Wi-Fi?

Frightening Frequencies: The Dangers of 5G & What You Can Do About Them

Frightening Frequencies: The Dangers of 5G & What You Can Do About Them
by Jody McCutcheon, eluxemagazine.com

As the old saying goes, give us an inch and inevitably we’ll want a mile. And certainly, this sentiment is true with technology.

Who doesn’t want faster, bigger (or smaller), more efficient? Take wireless mobile telecommunications. Our current broadband cellular network platform, 4G (or fourth generation), allows us to transmit data faster than 3G and everything that preceded. We can access information faster now than ever before in history. What more could we want? Oh, yes, transmission speeds powerful enough to accommodate the (rather horrifying) so-called Internet of Things. Which brings us to 5G.

Until now, mobile broadband networks have been designed to meet the needs of people. But 5G has been created with machines’ needs in mind, offering low-latency, high-efficiency data transfer. It achieves this by breaking data down into smaller packages, allowing for faster transmission times. Whereas 4G has a fifty-millisecond delay, 5G data transfer will offer a mere one-millisecond delay—we humans won’t notice the difference, but it will permit machines to achieve near-seamless communication. Which in itself may open a whole Pandora’s box of trouble for us – and our planet.

More bandwidth – more dangers of 5G

The CTIA -The Wireless Association has petitioned the United States Supreme Court to hear their case against the City of Berkeley’s cell phone “right to know” ordinance.

The CTIA argues that the ordinance forces cell-phone retailers to deliver a misleading and controversial message to customers. The city asserts that the message is “literally true”; moreover, the city has a legitimate interest in protecting the health of its residents.

Berkeley’s ordinance which was adopted in May, 2015, has been in effect since March, 2016. The law requires cellphone retailers to provide consumers with the following notification:

Phonegate and electromagnetic safety

The Phonegate scandal gives us the opportunity to question ourselves on the subject of electromagnetic safety. Is the SAR emission rate a reliable measure to rule out possible health effects?

Several mobile brands have been accused of manipulating
the security tests of their devices.
In recent months we have witnessed the so-called "Phonegate" case, through which we have learned that mobile phone companies, with the approval of the electromagnetic safety authorities, have been cheating to pass safety tests on their devices.

According to data revealed after court order, obtained by the French physician Marc Arazi , many devices have been passing the tests at distances of between 1.5 and 2.5 centimeters, and 89% of phones tested between 2011 and 2015 by the National Agency French Frequencies (ANFR) exceeded the emission limits according to the SAR rate in the contact positions. This means that many people when they carry their cell phones in their pockets or talk with them next to their ears are receiving more radiation than the norm.

Can Cell Phones Cause Female Infertility?

"Men typically produce sperm cells in their billions. Which in a sense makes sperm expendable.  But all the eggs that a woman can have in her ovaries are there before she was born and are irreplaceable.  For this reason I believe that the damage to women’s ovaries is way more catastrophic. Women and expectant mothers must be made aware of these dangers and must protect themselves."

Can Cell Phones Cause Female Infertility?
by Lloyd Burrell, electricsense.com, 13 January 2018

It’s estimated that there are over 48 million infertile couples worldwide [1]. Approximately 35% of women and 45% of men worldwide are considered to have reduced fertility (to be sub-fertile) and about 7% of women and men are effectively infertile [2,3].

If male fertility problems are considered central in about 40% of couples experiencing child bearing hurdles [4], we can deduce that a staggering 60% is due to female infertility.

What could be the cause of these high rates of female infertility?

Cell Phone Radiation Associated Brain Tumor Rates Are Rising

Cell Phone Radiation Associated Brain Tumor Rates Are Rising: Scientific Documentation

There is evidence that the numbers of people diagnosed with the type of brain tumor linked to cell phone use- glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is increasing as documented in some US and international cancer registries.

Glioblastomas (the type of brain cancer linked to cell phone radiation) and central nervous system tumors are increasing in young Americans, in precisely the areas of the brain that absorb most of the microwave radiation emitted or received by phones.

On this page we are maintaining a list of the scientific documentation of these cancer increases as well as the science linking cell phones to brain cancer. (Scroll down for scientific citations). Some facts:

  • The American Brain Tumor Association’s largest, most comprehensive US analysis to date, found the incidence of anaplastic astrocytoma, tumors of the meninges, tumors of the sellar region and unclassified tumors have increased in young adults 15-35.

Facebook is using an old drug dealer tactic to keep its users hooked
by Paul Smaleraqz.com, 12 January 2018

Facebook said it’s making some far-reaching changes to what you see in your newsfeed. Soon, when you see a post, it’s more likely to be because a friend shared the link, rather than because you follow a media company or business that published it.*

Reporter Michael Coren summed up the decision that founder Mark Zuckerberg outlined in a Facebook post:

“We built Facebook to help people stay connected and bring us closer together with the people that matter to us,” Zuckerberg wrote. “But recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content—posts from businesses, brands and media—is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other.”

Canada: Electrohypersensitive Persons Feel Forced to Escape Modern Life

David Fancy first noticed it while was living in Montreal in the early 2000s.

David Fancy, a theatre professor at Brock University, shows
Out in the Open host Piya Chattopadhyay some of the
equipment and readings he uses to gauge the electrical
environment in his home. (Sam Colbert)
He got headaches and heard ringing in his ears after he used his cell phone. It got worse when he moved into an apartment near power lines and a cell tower. It got so bad, he had to move out.

He finally discovered an explanation that seemed to make sense: "electromagnetic hypersensitivity," or "EHS" for short.

"Simplest terms, it's an allergy to human-made electromagnetic emissions," says David, a dramatic arts professor at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont.

Reported symptoms of EHS include headaches, ear ringing, dizziness, nerve pain, burning skin sensations and heart palpitations. Common triggers are cell phones, WiFi, Bluetooth signals, cell towers, power lines and, in extreme cases, anything electric.

Drop in U.S. Life Expectancy Is an 'Indictment of the American Health Care System'

We are the wealthiest nation on earth, but far from the healthiest, and things are getting worse, not better... In 2015, life expectancy at age 65 in the U.S. ranked 26th among the 37 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which includes most developed nations.

Drop in U.S. life expectancy is an ‘indictment of the American health care system’
By DAVID BLUMENTHAL, statnews.com,

The economy may be growing and the stock market booming, but Americans are dying younger — living shorter lives than previous generations and dying earlier than their counterparts around the world.

It is easy to place the blame squarely on our nation’s opioid epidemic, but if we do that we miss seeing the abysmal new life expectancy data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for what they are — an indictment of the American health care system.

According to the CDC, the average life expectancy at birth in the U.S. fell by 0.1 years, to 78.6, in 2016, following a similar drop in 2015. This is the first time in 50 years that life expectancy has fallen for two years running. In 25 other developed countries, life expectancy in 2015 averaged 81.8 years.

Cancers in the head and the neck are increasing in Sweden according to the latest cancer incidence data from the Swedish Cancer Registry. Cancers in the thyroid and the mouth are among the cancers that have seen the sharpest rise during the last decade but also the trend for cancers of the pituitary are on the rise. Among men aged 50 -79 years malignant brain tumours, grade 3-4 are also increasing visibly. The increase of these cancers has coincided with increasing use of mobile phones during the same time period while the increasing trend of malignant brain tumours, gliomas, might be an effect of long term use of mobile phones.

MZ * (49) suffers from electrosensitivity. Wi-Fi [WLAN] and mobile phone radiation cause headaches and insomnia. Nevertheless, he can live with it today.

The 20-minute article received a strong reaction:  A man from the Olten region went to court against his neighbor for allegedly physically suffering from the emissions of the neighbor's Wi-Fi. More than 400 comments have been written. In many, it becomes clear:  electrosensitive people often meet with incomprehension or even ridicule. "Should he also sue nature that gives off rays," says one reader.

However, electrosensitivity is not a minor problem, says Peter Schlegel, electrosmog expert on «Gesundheitstipp» [Swiss health magazine]: According to surveys in recent years, over ten percent of the Swiss population would react to electromagnetic fields in everyday life.

Using light to transmit data is faster and more secure; it's a bright idea.

Most studies have concluded that WiFi is safe, but some people still worry that we shouldn't be bathing in EMF radiation all day and night. WiFi also goes through walls and is not totally secure.

Then there is LiFi, or Light Fidelity, where the invisible flickering of a light source transmits data at very high speed, up to 224 gigabits per second. There are no interference issues as there can be with radio frequencies, and it could be more secure since it can't go through walls.

Wireless technology is modern magic. For the price of a device and a data plan, you are granted the power to communicate and connect to the World Wide Web through a pocket-sized screen. But some evidence suggests this magic has a dark side, and we may be paying more for it than we realize.

With an estimated 4.8 billion cellphone users worldwide, it’s hard to fathom that something so commonplace could pose health problems. Besides, since the 1990s, government and industry experts have maintained that cellphones are safe, and have pointed to studies that reveal no problems associated with wireless exposure.

How much more time will be lost before all mobile phone users are informed by the French, European and international public authorities of the serious risks to their health of keeping in contact with the body phones whose energy radiation thresholds far exceed the limit values?

In fact, the National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) has had this information since its first tests were carried out in 2012 but it was not revealed until July 2016 upon publication of the report by the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES): “Exposure to Radiofrequencies and Child Health”. It is the same for the other side of the Atlantic, since it was not until the end of 2017 that the California Department of Public Health published important recommendations on uses to be banned with regard to mobile phones. Since 2009, Dr. Joel Moscowitz had been demanding this action for transparency through a long and difficult legal battle.

Suspicions about Mobile Phones by Pierre Le Hir, Le Monde, 23 December 2016

"The levels of radiofrequency exposure announced by manufacturers of mobile phones are exceeded during actual conditions of use."  Have we forgotten the industrial and health scandal of "Phonegate" which concerns the health of millions of users of these phones, including hundreds of thousands of children?  The recent request to Apple by two of its major shareholders to fight against addiction of young people to the iPhone is only the tip of the iceberg.  The iPhone 6s is one of the mobile phones, among hundreds of others, exceeding the legal limit (SAR - Specific Absorption Rate) in contact with the body according to the new regulations of the European Union (and also FCC standards).  This scandal continues to be widely ignored by the authorities worldwide and is endangering the health of users, especially children.

The levels of radiofrequency exposure announced by manufacturers are exceeded during actual conditions of use.

Among Christmas purchases, mobile phones feature prominently without consumers being clearly warned about their exposure to the radiofrequencies of these devices and their potential dangers.

This is because the data provided by manufacturers are based on tests conducted in the laboratory following procedures very different from the actual conditions of mobile phone use. This is what “anti-wave” militants are denouncing today, seeing this as “an industrial and health scandal” similar to “dieselgate”. A « phonegate » then? In the current case, it is not strictly speaking a question of cheating, but rather a muddling of information given to users, favoring lax regulation. The health implications are none the less important. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified radiofrequencies as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. In a July 2016 report, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) considers these waves have “possible effects on the cognitive function and well-being” of young people.

There is nothing that courts do not have to deal with: even with the Wi-Fi  [WLAN] radiation from the neighbor's house. If the Federal Court had judged otherwise, then perhaps a flood of lawsuits of unknown magnitude would have started.

In the Olten region, a man does not sleep in his bedroom, but on an emergency bed under the basement stairs. There is a reason for this: the Wi-Fi radiation of his neighbor supposedly does not extend to that place. Otherwise, his house would be getting too many waves from the neighbor's internet box. The man complains of headache, exhaustion and lack of concentration due to the radiation. And so he went to court with his neighbor. The neighbor should, he demanded, limit the "Wi-Fi emissions emanating from his property in such a way that no more "immissions" penetrate into his own property.

Two activist shareholders want Apple to develop tools and research effects on young people of smartphone overuse and addiction

The iPhone has made Apple Inc. AAPL 1.14% and Wall Street hundreds of billions of dollars. Now some big shareholders are asking at what cost, in an unusual campaign to make the company more socially responsible.

A leading activist investor and a pension fund are saying the smartphone maker needs to respond to what some see as a growing public-health crisis of youth phone addiction.

Jana Partners LLC and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System, or Calstrs, which control about $2 billion of Apple shares, sent a letter to Apple on Saturday urging it to develop new software tools that would help parents control and limit phone use more easily and to study the impact of overuse on mental health.

Our comment:  More serious than programmed obsolescence, for 20 years, manufacturers have been placing their mobile phones on the market under deceptive conditions for millions of users, including children, by not taking into account the real uses in calculating the SAR, overexposing them to levels of radiation that are a risk for health, a scandal ignored by the Swiss media.  See arazi.fr **

Shortly before Christmas, the American giant Apple admitted to be voluntarily slowing down its older smartphone models.  Accused by several developers, the California company has been obliged to recognize in a press release that it restricted the performance of some of its phones, invoking problems with the batteries.  Many view this as a manoeuvre to encourage people to buy new models.  This is the case with Thomas Putallaz, State executive and PDC candidate for the Grand Conseil.  The man from Geneva filed a complaint with the Procurer General of the Confederation on 29 December.

Popular Science or… Populist Science?

Popular Science or… Populist Science?
by Dariusz Leszczynski, betweenrockandhardplace.wordpress.com, 24 December 2017

On Dec. 19, 2017, the ‘Popular Science’, in its Health section, published a story “Cell phones aren’t a public health risk, no matter what California says. This “possible carcinogen” isn’t going to give you cancer”. Reading this story written by Sara Chodosh one can wonder whether it was publication in the Popular Science or, rather, in a “Populist Science”.

How trustworthy is the Popular Science? The author of this story on safety of cell phones doesn’t even know (fact checking!) that coffee is no more classified as a “possible carcinogen”. IARC re-classified coffee in 2017.

If I am considered harsh in my evaluation of the article in the Popular Science, there are reasons why I am. Here are few questionable quotes from the article that, in my opinion, are either false or misleading:
“…there’s no evidence that cell phones are dangerous to your health. Period…”
“…The scientific consensus is that cell phones are safe…”
“…cell phones don’t pose a health hazard…”
“…IARC’s role is not to find the weight of the scientific evidence, it’s to list anything that might conceivably be a carcinogen, even if it very likely isn’t…”
“…cell phones cause brain tumors. If that were true, we would have seen a massive increase in brain cancer cases over the past decade as cell phone use has shot up. But in fact, we haven’t seen any increase…”

The statewide guidelines came after certain cities such as Berkeley and San Francisco released local warnings that their citizens should make some distance between their mobile phones and their bodies.

Health experts explained that cell phones transmit information using low frequency radio signals that may expose users to unhealthy radiation. The risk of exposure may be exacerbated when users stream or download large files, experts said. The guidelines stressed on mounting evidence that cell phone radiation may increase the odds of developing cancer, attention and mental health disorders and reproductive health issues.

“The French have tested the phones the way they are used and RF [radiofrequency] exposure exceeds the French standards by four more times, and apply that to the U.S. standards, it’s even much more than that — about seven times [the recommended levels]…[Multiple studies] show that men who keep phones in their pockets the longest have the lowest sperm count, with most damage,” Dr. Devra Davis of the Environmental Health Trust told Daily Mail online.

This Is What Happens to Your Body and Brain If You Do Not Get Enough Sleep

Watch the excellent video accompanying this article.  Remember that the use of wireless devices during time spent in bed has been correlated with insufficient and poor quality sleep.

A sleep expert explains what happens to your body and brain if you don't get sleep
by Noah Friedman and Lamar Salteruk.businessinsider.com, 26 December 2017

Sleep expert Matthew Walker breaks down the many effects of sleep deprivation on your brain and body. Following is a transcript of the video.

Matthew Walker: My name is Matthew Walker, I am a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and I am the author of the book "Why We Sleep."

We certainly know that a lack of sleep will actually prevent your brain from being able to initially make new memories, so it's almost as though without sleep the memory inbox of the brain shuts down and you can't commit new experiences to memory. So those new incoming informational emails are just bounced, and you end up feeling as though you're amnesiac. You can't essentially make and create those new memories.

We also know that a lack of sleep will lead to an increased development of a toxic protein in the brain that is called beta-amyloid and that is associated with Alzheimer's disease because it is during deep sleep at night when a sewage system within the brain actually kicks in to high gear and it starts to wash away this toxic protein, beta-amyloid.

BabyTech Summit: Smart Devices Helping Parents Raise Healthy, Safe and Happy Babies?

Our comment: Big "Smart" Business is now assaulting parents and babies with "smart" devices to "enhance parenting skills and provide support in raising a safe, healthy and happy baby."  We believe smart tech endangers the health of our new generation and takes advantage of the ignorance of parents regarding the potential harm of "smart" technology, just to fatten the pockets of industry. Worse, it is dumbing down the natural instincts of parents raising their babies.

California’s Cell Phone Safety Guidance: 2017 vs 2009

California’s Cell Phone Safety Guidance: 2017 vs 2009
saferemr.com, 4 January 2018

In June, 2009, the Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) prepared a draft cell phone safety guidance document. Although the document reflected the consensus of the division, it was not released until May, 2017 pursuant to a court order--the outcome of a lawsuit filed under the California Public Records Act.

In December, 2017, the CDPH finally published their cell phone safety guidance document.

A side-by-side comparison of the contents of the original 2009 draft with the 2017 published version of the document appears below.

Alert: Virtual Assistants Expose Kids To Untested Levels Of Microwave Radiation

Low Levels of Microwave Radiation linked to Cancer, Sperm Damage and Headaches

(Washington)—Wireless virtual assistants expose children to untested levels of microwave radiofrequency radiation- the same radiation emitted by cell phones. Before coming on the market, radiation exposures for virtual assistants are compliance tested with an 8 inch separation between the device and a large adult male body phantom. Radiation levels are not tested at body contact. Health organizations are issuing an alert that children who sing and play close to these devices are exposed to radiofrequency microwave radiation levels that could greatly exceed these tested government radiation limits.

5G Telecommunications Science

5G Telecommunications Science
Physicians for Safe Technology

The Telecommunications Industry promises ubiquitous and unlimited mobile internet access with the next generation of 5G technologies. This 5th generation (5G) system uses much higher frequency electromagnetic radiation with Gigahertz (Ghz) wavelengths in the millimeter range. The 5G deployment proposes to add frequencies in the microwave spectrum in the low- (0.6 GHz – 3.7 GHz), mid- (3.7 – 24 GHz), and high-band frequencies (24 GHz and higher) for faster communications. Published scientific literature is listed below. [See original article.]

5G short fast wavelengths: 5G high frequency wavelengths are short and in the millimeter range. This is in contrast to the 2G, 3G and 4G telecommunications systems which use longer centimeter-length microwave frequencies in the megahertz (MHz) range. Industry states the deployment of 5G will increase productivity, boost the economy and give us a sense of well-being. In order to accomplish this, they will not just be using just 5G short wavelengths to transmit data, but will integrate 5G with current 3G and 4G systems, with plans to add much of the remaining spectrum in the microwave frequencies. Industry states this will operate fluidly in a highly dense cell antenna arrangement throughout neighborhoods and cities. This cell antenna network will accommodate multiple types of access technologies, multi-layer networks, multiple types of devices, multiple types of user interactions including self-driving automobiles and massive industrial automation.

Retract Popular Science Article "Cell Phones Aren't a Public Health Risk, No Matter What California Says"

Retract Popular Science article “Cell phones aren’t a public health risk, no matter what California says”
ehtrust.org, January 2018

We are calling on Popular Science to retract the December 19, 2017 Popular Science article “Cell phones aren’t a public health risk, no matter what California says.” NPR, Science Friday andPublic Radio International have picked up the Popular Science article- exemplifying the importance of addressing the inaccuracies in this Popular Science article.

Inaccurate Irresponsible Statements

The December 19th Popular Science article written by Sara Chodosh should be retracted because it contains numerous egregious errors indicating that microwave radiation emitted by cell phones is safe. In fact, the renowned U.S. National Toxicology Program last year reported that rodents exposed in their lifetimes to the same levels of cell phone radiation that humans can easily experience today developed highly malignant, rare and aggressive cancers of the brain and nerve of the heart—a finding that is consistent with a growing experimental literature.

Apple Facing Slew of iPhone Slowdown Class Action Lawsuits

Apple Facing Slew of iPhone Slowdown Class Action Lawsuits
by Lucy Campbellbigclassaction.com, 27 December 2017

Los Angeles, CA: Apple is facing at least nine consumer fraud class action lawsuits following the tech giant’s admission in mid-December, 2017, that it deliberately slowed down certain iPhones, including the iPhone 6. The slowdown was managed through Apple's software updates. Apple claims the software was intended as a fix to deal with degraded lithium-ion batteries that could otherwise suddenly die.

The allegations include Apple’s failure to disclose in a timely fashion, the fact that its software updates deliberately slowed down older-model phones so batteries would last longer. Apple said it released the fix for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE and later extended it to iPhone 7, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Smartphones: the new teen mental health crisis? [Watch video in original article.]

Delaney Ruston, MD, is a primary care physician and documentary filmmaker. The opinions expressed in this commentary are her own.

(CNN)Not too long ago, one of my daughter's middle-school teachers told me that my daughter was spending a lot of time on her phone during class. As a mother, this was concerning. But I was not surprised. I am a physician and filmmaker who dedicated my time to make the documentary "Screenagers: Growing up on in the Digital Age" precisely because I know how strongly tech tempts youth and how confused we are as a society about what to do about that.

People vs Wireless Industry: the Main Victories of 2017
by Dr. Igor Yakymenkocarelessscience.com, 30 December 2017

On New Year’s Eve, let’s take a minute and turn back to recap the most important events that have happened in the outgoing year in fighting of science and civil society against wireless industry total domination in our life. At first glance, in 2017, the wireless industry was as strong as never before. The number of active cell phone users has been steadily growing, reaching 63% of global population [1], smartphone is mandatory for everyone, including kindergarten kids and toddlers, iPhone X (X means expensive, you know) is almost mandatory for many as well, WiFi is everywhere, a smart meter is the best thing ever (according to broad governments’ support), and 5G / internet of things is on the way.

Microwave Radiation Coming to a Lamppost Near You

5G technology will likely turn this serious health risk into a public health crisis. Ubiquitous deployment of small cell antennas will unleash unnatural and round-the-clock millimeter microwave radiation that is far more potent than anything previously experienced from the electromagnetic spectrum. In fact, the U.S. military uses millimeter waves—which travel only a short distance—as a non-lethal weapon for crowd control because the waves affect the surface of the body and cause a burning sensation of the skin at higher levels of power.

The lower-powered but chronic exposure that most of us will experience outside of our homes, schools and businesses is expected to cause very serious health effects, including higher rates of skin cancer, cataracts, cardiac irregularities and fetal abnormalities...

Microwave Radiation Coming to a Lamppost Near Youby MERINDA TELLER, MPH, PHDwestonaprice.org, 1st December 2017

In an exceptionally short period of time, cellular technologies have become a dominant fixture of modern-day life. When the first clunky cell phones became commercially available in the early 1980s, only the military and “affluent geeks” could afford the four-thousand-dollar price tag.1 A mere three decades later, more than three-fourths (77 percent) of all Americans willingly spend hundreds of dollars for sleek smartphones (a proportion that has more than doubled since 2011),2and more and more people rely on their smartphones as their sole computer.3 Global projections indicate that over six billion people worldwide will be using a smartphone by 2020.4

  • Carriers explore how to make money in saturated market
  • Internet of Things seen as still a long way off in 2020

In the wildest dreams of wireless engineers, the mobile network of the future controls our cars, lets our refrigerators talk to the grocery store to order more milk, and provides fast, reliable broadband connections to our homes so we can sever ties with cable companies.

But it’s going to cost the mobile-phone companies, chipmakers, device manufacturers and software developers about $200 billion a year in research and capital spending to get to that point, with engineers laboring to work around interference from trees and rain and provide a strong enough signal to handle so much demand.

Even if they’re successful, making a profit on that investment will be difficult in an industry that isn’t growing much anymore. In most developed countries, like the U.S., the wireless market has reached saturation, and there are few new subscribers to sign up without undercutting rivals on price.

Electric Blankets Increase Risk of Miscarriage

Electric blankets increase risk of miscarriage: study
by Marian Chu, koreabiomed.com, 2 January 2018

Electric blankets warm you in winter and save on your power bills. Are they safe, too?

Unfortunately no, a recent study says, especially if you are pregnant.

Electric blankets and many other environmental sources such as power lines, wireless devices and networks generate extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields, called non-ionizing radiation.

High exposure to non-ionizing radiation significantly raises the risk of miscarriage, according to the study by Kaiser Permanente published in Nature last week.

[Press release] Phonegate : Warnings from the California Department of Public Health

On 13 December 2017, the Department of Public Health of California published warnings concerning the risk of use of cell phones: increase in infertility and cancer, and a possible link between intensive use of a cell phone and headaches, effects on learning and memory, hearing, behavior and sleep.

One week later, we sent a message to seven newspapers in French-speaking Switzerland, asking them to consider publishing an article on this very important information.  Dr. Marc Arazi, Spokesperson for "Phonegate" even called the Swiss press agency (ATS).

We hope that the journalists contacted will act in a responsible manner and inform users of cell phones, particularly children and teens, of the risks and safer ways of using these devices.

The news from California has been widely reported in the United States and mentioned by the media in other countries, but not at all in Switzerland.  We call on all users to follow the recommendations coming from California to reduce exposure to the radiation emitted by cell phones, mainly:  keep the cell phone at a distance from the body, never in a pocket, bra or metal belt clip, do not sleep with the phone in the bed...

A bipartisan effort to speed the development of advanced wireless networks nationwide is under way in the U.S. Senate.

Draft legislation by Sens. John Thune, R-South Dakota, and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, would require state and local government agencies to act on applications for multiple-company wireless applications within 60 days. The bill would also provide guidelines for fees that telecom companies would pay to access state and local sites for wireless relays and would give cable operators a “presumed right” to public rights of way.

Why Apple Deliberately Slowing Down iPhones Is Harming the Environment

Why Apple Deliberately Slowing Down iPhones Is Harming the Environment
by Lorraine Chow, EcoWatch, 21 December 2017

If you ever felt like your iPhone is getting slower over time, Apple has admitted that it deliberately slows down the processing speeds of phones with older batteries to stop them shutting down without warning.

The tech giant is ultimately doing a good thing—even if it's in a sneaky, backhanded way. Smartphone batteries certainly have a limited lifespan.

As the company explained Wednesday: "Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, [when they] have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components."

But how many of us buy a completely new phone instead of simply replacing the battery? That's not to mention that Apple makes their phones very difficult to open and fix yourself.

Do You Do These 5 Things With Your Cellphone That Health Officials Say You Shouldn’t?

Do You Do These 5 Things With Your Cellphone That Health Officials Say You Shouldn’t?
by April M. Short, AlterNet / EcoWatch, 18 December 2017

Radiation from your cellphone could be bad for more than just your mental health, California state health officials warn.

The California Department of Public Health has just released the first-ever guidelines on avoiding too much exposure to the radiation cellphones emit. State officials said one of the reasons for releasing the guidelines is that statistics show cellphone use is at an all-time high, with 95 percent of Americans using cellphones each day, Pew Research Center noted.

Karen Smith, of the state health department, said there is widespread public concern over cellphone safety, according to a San Francisco CBS station.

Perhaps another reason the guidelines are coming out now is due to pressure from researchers and others.

There’s no more ubiquitous feature of modern life than smartphones. Convenience, necessity and plain fun make the devices a near requirement, but it all comes with a niggling doubt: Is there a health risk to a device that’s become almost a human appendage?

All those pinging messages may take a toll — or may not. The research on a relatively new product hasn’t turned up definitive results so far. But that’s not stopping the California Department of Public Health from weighing in with mild guidelines that come close to suggesting that there’s uncertain harm.

Cell Phone and Microwave Information Consumers Really Ought to Know

We were impressed by the recent note on cell phones and microwaves sent by Arthur R. Firstenberg, an American activist on the subject of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, founder of the independent campaign group the Cellular Phone Task Force and author of the outstanding book, "The Invisible Rainbow". Catherine Frompovich has included the full text of Arthur Firstenberg's note in her recent post.  We are quoting here only a few extracts.

Cell Phone And Microwave Information Consumers REALLY Ought To Know

Now that 2017 is winding down and 2018 is about to take center stage, people usually like to engage in offering forecasts, e.g., prognostications (predictions) and self-improvement “new year’s resolutions.” Each of us has his or her thing, which apparently preoccupies us, but there is something which really ought to grab our attention as a frightening 2018 probability that is not regarded for what it truly offers, i.e., producing negative health impacts, and IF we can protect ourselves from such unrealized physical abuse, especially to our DNA.
