The first study in the world on 5G health risks

The first study in the world on 5G health risks
Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, radiationprotection.se, 20 June 2024

5G has been rolled out since 2019/2020. A Swedish research team has published the first study to date on how human health is affected by radiation from 5G base stations. The results show that 5G greatly increases radiofrequency radiation exposure and that ill health occurs fairly immediately after 5G is switched on near people’s homes. The study also included three children aged four to eight years. In several cases, the symptoms were so severe that people had to abandon their homes for good.

The new study published in Reviews on Environmental Health on June 19th, 2024, is a compilation of seven previously separate case studies published in 2023 and 2024. All case studies and the new compilation were conducted by physician and researcher Dr Lennart Hardell from the Swedish Environment and Cancer Research Foundation in collaboration with Mona Nilsson from the Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation. During the years 2021-2023, they have studied a total of 16 people’s self-assessed health after 5G base stations or masts were established near their homes. Measurements of radiation from 5G have also been carried out in the homes. The measurements show that 5G gives rise to extremely high exposure to pulsed radio frequency (RF) radiation, significantly higher than from previous generations of mobile telephony. In several cases radiation reached several million microwatts per square meter (μW/m2) peak levels in the studied homes, which are levels more than 100 000 times higher than the levels recommended as appropriate maximum exposure by other researchers.

Abstract:

The recent disclosure of the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) closing down its RF radiation research program on how RF radiation causes cancer was a surprise [1] , [2] , [3] . NTP is a part of the National Institutes of Health and reports to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NTP’s mandates are to provide the scientific basis for programs, activities, and policies that promote health or lead to the prevention of disease.

NTP’s motto is “science you can depend on for decisions that matter.” It is a world leader in toxicology research. It has evaluated more than 2,800 environmental agents for potential human health effects. It plays a critical role in generating, assessing, and sharing toxicological information about potentially hazardous agents in the environment. Its latest congressionally mandated, science-based public health document, the 15th Report on Carcinogens [4], was released on 21 December 2021. An article published in the December 2023 issue of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives [5] included an interactive tool that demonstrates the Report on Carcinogens’ impact on public health policies.

To the Editors, Environment International

We write to point out serious methodological problems with the Cohort Study on Mobile Phones and Health (COSMOS) brain tumor risk paper (Feychting et al., 2024). Because of these flaws, the study does not provide reliable estimates of the risks of tumors associated with exposure to mobile phone radio frequency radiation (RFR). This paper which summarizes interim results from this 25-plus year cohort study (Schüz et al., 2011) demonstrates many of the overall study’s shortcomings.

1. Problems with exposure assessment

At baseline, COSMOS collected data on the frequency and duration of mobile phone calls based on self-reports, partially supplemented with data from operator records from telecommunications providers. This is a poor proxy for the amount of RFR exposure from a mobile phone. Misclassification of RFR exposure was substantial because the amount of exposure from a mobile phone varies by up to four orders of magnitude depending on the cellular network technology and the strength of the signal from the cell tower (Wall et al., 2019). COSMOS did not account for this variability. The study also did not control for other sources of RFR exposure, including cordless phones, personal wireless devices, Wi-Fi routers, and cell towers.

The Los Angeles unified school district board passed a resolution on Tuesday banning cellphones from district classrooms. As the second-largest school district in the US, the vote makes it the largest school district in the US to approve such a ban.

As more educators across the US explore similar policies, California governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday called for a statewide ban on phones in class.

The measure in Los Angeles was introduced by board member Nick Melvoin and will be implemented starting in January 2025 after passing in a 5-2 vote. Melvoin said in a statement the measure is meant to support “students’ academic success and wellbeing”, adding that studies have shown smartphones and social media distract kids from learning and stifle their in-person social connections.

5G: Friend or Foe? - New Full-Length Documentary

This new documentary on 5G comes with a conversation with world expert in electromagnetic radiation, Professor Olle Johansson. The film shines a light on an ever-expanding public health issue of significant global concern.
Zipps Media, 2 June 2024 - 55 min.

Professor Olle Johansson with Christine Zipps and many other experts present this new documentary on 5 G.

With this documentary project, we have not been naive. We realize there is a lot more to consider such as other versions of wireless communication and other sources including radar, radio, and TV but for practical reasons we have used 5G as a model for discussion because 5G is on peoples’ minds. Its roll out is raising concerns all over the world, including how the non-stop exposure increases will impact our living environments.

Switzerland: Power of 5G antennas revealed as political decision

Power of 5G antennas revealed as political decision
by Quentin Bohlen, Delphine Sage, Bastien von Wyss, RTS, swissinfo.ch, 17 June 2024

Adaptive antennas can now transmit at up to ten times the power of conventional antennas at peak transmission times. The power of these 5G antennas has been set politically, according to an investigation by Swiss public radio, RTS, after gaining access to documents under the Transparency Law.

5G has been in full development in Switzerland since the end of 2020, and new so-called adaptive antennas are being built, RTS writesExternal link. These will make it possible to communicate with new-generation phones in a directional manner. Given that they transmit less widely, the question was whether they could transmit more loudly.

Pixel smartphones: Alphabet’s guilty omissions to its shareholders

Pixel smartphones: Alphabet’s guilty omissions to its shareholders
By : Phonegate Team • 6 June 2024

At the Annual General Meeting of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of U.S. giant Google, scheduled to be held on Friday June 7, 2024, shareholder proposal number 5 tabled by Lendri Purcell will be debated. In it, the Co-President of Jonas Philantropies calls for the introduction of an annual report designed to provide better information on the RF exposure levels of its PIXEL products, and to improve their safety.

Alphabet Inc asks shareholders to vote against the proposal

To explain this position, Alphabet Inc. cited the following main reasons:

“Our Board of Directors recommends a vote AGAINST the stockholder proposal because:
  • Our cellular devices meet all regulatory and safety requirements for countries where the products are sold, and we maintain transparency around the safety and regulatory information regarding use of Pixel devices
  • Current regulatory limits are backed by scientific research, which have concluded that long-term radiofrequency exposure below the exposure limits has not been established as causing any type of adverse health effects in humans”
