Other Countries Are Taking the Health Risks of 5G and Wireless Radiation Seriously. Why Isn’t the U.K.?
by Gillian Jamieson, dailysceptic.org, 29 October 2024
Momentum is building in the campaign to try to protect children from harmful smartphone use. Earlier this year, Miriam Cates MP led a lively debate on this subject, while the Education Committee led an inquiry entitled, ‘Screen Time – Impacts on Education and Wellbeing’. The grassroots movement, including Smartphone Free Childhood, Safe Screens and others is gathering pace. The latter organisation is in fact actively supporting MP Josh MacAlister’s Safer Phones Bill launched earlier this month, which aims to “make smartphones less addictive for children and empower families and teachers to cut down on children’s daily smartphone screen time”.
The dangers of smartphone use are clearly serious and encompass addiction, harmful content, exposure to sexual abuse and bullying, disruption of learning, behavioural changes through the habits adopted and the loss of previously normal childhood activities and social interactions. The movement hails Jonathan Haidt as the “world’s leading voice” on the damage caused to children by a phone-based childhood. Haidt identifies the damage as an “adolescent mental health crisis”.
Raise awareness of environmental health issues in order to better protect our children and future generations.

Switzerland: 2023 monitoring report on non-ionizing radiation
2023 monitoring report on non-ionizing radiation in Switzerland
(source: www.info-emf.ch/monitoring) - auto-translation
The 2023 monitoring report presents several problems :
We persist in only taking into account the RMS values (effective average values) and not the peak values, whereas it is mainly the latter which are decisive for the impacts at the biological level.
These measured values are compared in this way to the maximum admissible immission value according to the ORNI [Ordinance on protection against non-ionizing radiation] which is much too high (up to 61V/m) because it is based solely on considerations of thermal effects, even though the BERENIS expert group [Swiss expert group on electromagnetic fields and non-ionizing radiation] mandated by the FOEN [Federal Office for the Environment] acknowledged having observed effects at values lower than the maximum emission values authorised for installations, which are 5V/m as a general rule.
Exposures that are already far too high according to the biological criteria of EUROPAEM [European Academy for Environmental Medicine] and habitat biology are declared as "low".
Measurements are only taken in schools in playgrounds and corridors, and never in classrooms, which are heavily irradiated due to all the wireless devices used.
Therefore, it is not possible to subscribe to what the FOEN says:
"The results indicate that population exposure to RNI is generally low and that health protection is assured."

Effects of Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields: Thirty years of research
Effects of Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields: Thirty years of research
saferenr.com, 24 October 2024
The preponderance of peer-reviewed research published since 1990 has found significant adverse effects from exposure to radio frequency radiation and extremely low frequency and static electromagnetic fields.
Dr. Henry Lai, Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington, Editor Emeritus of the journal, Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine, and an emeritus member of the International Commission on the Biological Effects of EMF, has compiled summaries of the research on the biological effects of exposure to radio frequency (RFR) and extremely low frequency (ELF) and static electromagnetic fields (EMF). His set of abstracts which covers the period from 1990 to October 2024 constitutes a comprehensive collection of the peer-reviewed research.
Dr. Lai reports that the preponderance of research has found that exposure to RFR or ELF EMF produces oxidative effects or free radicals, and damages DNA. Moreover the preponderance of studies that examined genetic, neurological and reproductive outcomes has found significant effects. Among hundreds of studies of RFR, 71% to 89% reported significant effects. Among hundreds of studies of ELF and static fields, 75% to 90% reported significant effects.

Does radiation from cell phones and cell towers affect human health? There has long been controversy around this question, which the federal government has tried to put to rest by issuing findings that there is no clear evidence of a health impact and by refuting earlier studies that found that biological changes associated with radiofrequency radiation. But, as recent Freedom of Information Act requests demonstrate, the controversy isn’t going away.
According to PoliScio Analytics’ competitive-intelligence database FOIAengine, which tracks FOIA requests in as close to real-time as their availability allows, 20 cell phone and cell tower radiation requests have been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institute of Health since January of 2021.

Electrosensitivity — sometimes referred to as electromagnetic sensitivity (EMS), electromagnetic hypersensitivity or microwave syndrome — is a federally recognized condition in which people experience adverse health effects due to electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure.
The Post interviewed residents of Green Bank, West Virginia, some of whom said EMF exposure previously had caused them to experience heart arrhythmia, headaches, eye problems, burning skin, brain fog, memory issues, fatigue and/or other symptoms.
So they moved to Green Bank, an EMF-free town situated in a roughly 13,000-square-mile area spanning Virginia and West Virginia. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 1958 created the protected area — dubbed the National Radio Quiet Zone — because the area is home to the Green Bank Telescope.
The telescope, considered “the most accurate, versatile, large dish radio telescope in the world,” is powerful enough to pick up “the super-faint clouds of hydrogen that hang out between the stars and galaxies.” Because cell tower or Wi-Fi signals would drown out the subtle signals picked up by the telescope, the FCC protected the area from radiofrequency (RF) radiation-EMF interference.

Electrohypersensitivity: Concrete help for those affected in Germany

Recently, the diagnose:funk doctors network went online in Germany. This is supposed to provide people with electrohypersensitivity across Germany with an overview of where and with whom they can listen to their complaints (for the first time).
While in Switzerland, people suffering from electromagnetic hypersensitivity can already seek professional advice at the medical network MedNIS since 2023, Germany is still significantly behind in this. Although the Robert Koch Institute recognized as early as January 2020 that “patients with environmentally related or caused health disorders are finding it increasingly difficult to receive environmental medical care”, it has hardly taken any steps in this regard to date.

A new peer-reviewed study from South Korea has found a significant link between cellphone radiation and an increased risk of brain cancer, directly contradicting a recent World Health Organization (WHO)-led study that dismissed any such connection.
Published on October 10 in Environmental Health, the South Korean study analyzed 24 previous studies and concluded that heavy, long-term cell phone use increases the risk of malignant brain tumors, including meningioma and glioma, particularly on the side of the head where cellphones are held.
This study adds to growing evidence that cellphone radiation poses a potential health risk, bringing the total number of meta-analyses since 2016 linking radiation to brain cancer to seven, according to Joel Moskowitz, Ph.D., a leading expert on wireless technology and public health.
Moskowitz, who directs the Center for Family and Community Health at UC Berkeley, criticized the WHO’s recent review, stating that these seven studies clearly contradict its findings.

Calls are growing to ban smartphones in schools in England by law, as education experts and unions back an MP’s attempt to push a new law through Parliament.
Children “doomscrolling for hours a day” is causing widespread harm, according to Josh MacAlister, the Labour MP and former teacher behind the private member's bill being introduced in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
Most schools in England already have a ban or restrictions on phone use, after government guidance was introduced earlier this year.
But Mr MacAlister wants to turn the guidance into law, as well as bringing in what he calls “seatbelt legislation” for children’s social-media use.

Interpellation Sabine Glauser Krug - Electro-hypersensitive people, sacrificed in the name of progress - what solutions?
Submitted to the State Council, Canton Vaud, September 3, 2024 - unofficial translation
Electrohypersensitivity (EHS) is a condition that is not recognized by health insurance funds, and manifests itself as pathological reactions to non-ionizing radiation (NIR). Symptoms are very diverse, ranging from tingling, trembling or fatigue to intense headaches and muscle aches, as well as difficulty concentrating. They are heightened by the duration of exposure and the intensity of the emissions. The complexity of this condition lies in the diversity of non-tolerated frequencies (some people are more sensitive to Wi-Fi, others to the power grid or to emissions from connected devices, etc.), the delayed onset of symptoms and the fluctuating degree of sensitivity. There is no officially recognized diagnostic protocol, and electrohypersensitive people have generally been able to identify the source of their discomfort by escaping NIR either experimentally or by staying in a place protected from such radiation. Symptoms reappear on return to normal life.

On 10 October 2024, the journal Environmental Health published a systematic review and meta-analytic study on cell phone use and brain tumor risk by Moon et al. (2024). The study found significantly elevated risks for three types of brain tumors when examining tumors on the side of the head where cell phones were held and for heavy, long-term cell phone use.
Six other systematic reviews and meta-analyses of case-control studies published in peer-reviewed journals since 2016 have also also found significant associations between heavy, long-term cellphone use and brain tumor risk (Wang & Guo, 2016; Bortkiewicz et al., 2017; Carlberg & Hardell, 2017; Prasad et al., 2017, Yang et al., 2017; Choi et al., 2020).
These seven peer-reviewed meta-analytic studies contradict the conclusion of the recent WHO systematic review conducted by Karipidis et al. (2024) that there is no evidence cell phone use causes brain cancer. To learn about serious problems with the WHO systematic reviews on the health effects of radiofrequency radiation see:

Results of Dr. Li’s study
Dr. Li’s pilot study, designed to examine 50 cases of EOCRC* and 50 matched controls, revealed striking results:
- People carrying a phone below the waist were four times more likely to develop tumors.
- The link was particularly strong when the phone was carried on the same side where the tumor developed.
- Those who carried a phone on the left side for more than 30,000 hours (about 10 years) were 12 times more likely to develop a tumor on that side of the colon.
- The risk was significantly higher for ipsilateral (same side) carrying than for contralateral (opposite side) carrying.

Increasing incidence of central nervous system tumors in Denmark (1995-2023)
Increasing incidence of CNS-tumours in Denmark
Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation, 7 October 2024
The latest report on the number of new cancer cases in Denmark for 2023 shows that central nervous system (CNS) tumors, including brain tumors, have been increasing among both men and women.
On September 30, 2024, the Danish Cancer Registry published a new report on the number of newly diagnosed cancers during the last year 2023. The data shows that tumors of the central nervous system, CNS, including brain tumors, are increasing and are among the cancers that have increased most rapidly over the past ten years between 2014 and 2023. This applies to all tumor types combined. The statistics thus contradict those who argue that brain tumor incidence is not increasing, an argument that been used to argue that mobile phone use is not linked to an increased risk of brain tumors or cancers in general.
The Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation has examined three reports from the Danish Cancer Registry (see sources below). These reports include the number of new cases of CNS tumors per 100,000 inhabitants, age-standardized to the Danish population in 2000. We compiled the data from 1995 through 2023 in the graph below:

In the year 1962 the American scientist Allan H. Frey carried out experiments with pulsed microwaves, which produced clicking, buzz, hissing or knocking sounds in the heads of people at a distance of up to several thousands yards. In his report, he also wrote that with the change of parameters he can produce pins and needles sensation or perception of severe buffeting in the head and claimed that this energy “could possibly be used as a tool to explore nervous system coding… and for stimulating the nervous system without the damage caused by electrodes“ (see this).
In other words, Allan Frey was on the path to finding the way how to manipulate the human nervous system at distance. This was quickly understood by the U.S. Government. For the next two decades Frey, funded by the Office of Naval Research and the U.S. Army, was the most active researcher on the bioeffects of microwave radiation in the country. Frey caused rats to become docile by exposing them to radiation at an average power level of only 50 microwatts per square centimeter. He altered specific behaviors of rats at 8 microwatts per square centimeter. He altered the heart rate of live frogs at 3 microwatts per square centimeter. At only 0.6 microwatts per square centimeter, he caused isolated frogs’ hearts to stop beating by timing the microwave pulses at a precise point during the heart’s rhythm (see this and this).

Systematic reviews (=mess) on wireless radiation and health, caused by secretive EMF Project and… lobby…
Prof. Dariusz Leszczynski denounces the chaos of systematic reviews on wireless radiation and health. Has the recent World Health Organization (WHO) study been compromised by the telecoms lobby? Discover his shock analysis.
betweenrockandhardplace.wordpress.com, 6 October 2024
In recent weeks there has been a lot of debate about the recently published review of studies that examined the potential effect of wireless radiation on the development of brain cancer in humans. This review is part of a series of systematic reviews commissioned by the WHO EMF Project. These reviews will be used as the scientific basis for the Environmental Health Criteria evaluation of the impact of wireless radiation on human health. It is necessary to remind everyone that these systematic reviews are not the ‘last word’ but are only a ‘raw material’ for the group of scientists who will use them for the preparation of the Environmental Health Criteria.
The way how the systematic reviews were conceived is, in my opinion, biased and should be considered questionable by any fair-minded scientist or policymaker.
The WHO EMF Project has announced a call for the preparation of systematic reviews and asked the scientific community to participate. The scientists were to organize themselves into teams of experts. Such teams were organized without (?) the participation of the WHO EMF Project and were to be independent of any vested interests – just pure science and expertise.

New Clues on Colorectal Cancer Among Young Adults
Higher Risks When Cell Phone Is Carried Below the Waist
microwavenews.com, 30 Sept. 2024
It’s a long-running medical mystery: Why have so many people under 50 in affluent countries been developing colorectal cancer in recent decades?
Something new is triggering a jump in what’s known as early-onset colon and rectal cancer (EOCRC). The rates have been going up for the last 20 years and no one knows why it’s happening. The usual risk factors for CRC —obesity, smoking, bad diet and lack of exercise— don’t fully explain the increase.
Five years ago, De-Kun Li, a senior epidemiologist at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, CA, offered a new possibility: carrying a cell phone below the waist. When placed in a pocket below the belt, the phone transmits RF radiation into the abdomen. Given that RF has been shown to cause cancer in animal experiments, Li thought it was a plausible risk factor. (This is what I wrote at the time.)
The idea didn’t catch on, but Li persisted and conducted a pilot study to test his hypothesis. It convinced him that he may be onto something.
It’s a small study, designed to survey 50 cases of EOCRC and 50 matched controls. He found that those who carried a phone below the waist were four times more likely to develop tumors.
EOCRC Tumors on the Left Side
Li found that the link between cell phone carrying and EOCRC is strongest when the phone was kept on the same side as where the tumor developed.
EOCRC tends to develop on the left side of the colon. Those who carried a phone on the left side for more than 30,000 hours were 12 times more likely to develop a tumor on that side of the colon. This elevated risk for what’s called ipsilateral carrying is statistically significant. (36,000 hours is equivalent to about ten years of RF exposure.)
