Sprint has turned off a cell phone tower at a Ripon elementary school that parents suspect was the cause of cancer cases among students and teachers.

Ripon Unified School District said the tower at Weston Elementary School was disconnected Wednesday and Sprint is working on relocating the cell site.

Portland, Oregon city officials are setting up to run opposition to the installation of 5G networks around the city. The initiative is supported by Mayor Ted Wheeler and two commissioners, Amanda Fritz, and Chloe Eudaly. The city feels that 5G health risks are not well enough understood to warrant installations. Additionally, the federal government’s issues with telecommunications rules influenced the opposition movement.

KATU News reported that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decided to impose new restrictions over how cities are allowed to manage transmitters that reside on city property. They also put a $270 limit on franchise fees. Typically, cities charge $3,000 in fees. According to Wheeler, the disparity in fee acquisition could cost his city almost $10 million dollars, a loss he’s not willing to accept. In KATU’s report, Wheeler calls the new FCC rules, “something of a land grab against local infrastructures, like telephone poles, where these wireless nodes will be connected.”

After 4 students and 3 teachers were diagnosed with cancer within a 3-year period, Sprint has finally agreed to remove a cell tower at a Ripon, California school. While it is exceedingly difficult to identify the cause of a cancer cluster, parents and students in the San Joaquin County school are convinced there is one and it is caused by the campus cell tower. They are not only protesting but several have abandoned the small school which now features 4 rare cancers in students -2 brain tumors, one kidney cancer and one liver cancer. Investigations of not only cell tower radiation but also water quality have been initiated. After 200 parents stormed the school board meeting, school officials were prompted to ask for the cell tower to be removed at the K-8 school. Sprint has agreed to do so.

Parents Opposed the Cell Tower Before it was Placed

The cell tower was placed at Weston Elementary School 10 years ago and a group of parents opposed the cell tower construction before it was erected, citing health concerns. According to news reports, they have another 15 years left on the 25-year lease. A Go Petition to have the cell tower removed was initiated in 2017 after 2 children in the school developed cancer.

The unanimous verdict was announced Tuesday in San Francisco in the first federal case to be brought against Monsanto, now owned by Bayer, alleging that repeated use of the company's glyphosate-containing weedkiller caused the plaintiff's cancer. Seventy-year-old Edwin Hardeman of Santa Rosa, California said he used Roundup for almost 30 years on his properties before developing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The decision comes less than a year after a jury awarded $289 million to Bay-area groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson over similar claims. The amount was later reduced to $78 million.

Parents in Ripon, California say a cell phone tower in a local schoolyard is to blame for the cancer diagnoses of four students in the last three years.

The tower, which is located at Weston Elementary, is the same as others scattered throughout the town. However, one parent told CBS Sacramento that its proximity to her son led to his 2017 brain cancer diagnosis.

“We had a doctor tell us that it’s 100 percent environmental, the kind of tumor that he has,” Monica Ferrulli said in an interview. “It’s indescribable, it’s really tough.”

Ontario is set to announce this week that cellphones will be banned in classrooms, starting in the next school year.

Some schools already have similar policies, but the province will issue a directive to all public schools for the 2019-20 school year.

It would prohibit cellphone use during instructional time.

Enforcement of the ban would be up to individual boards and schools.

The Progressive Conservatives had proposed such a ban in their platform during last year’s election campaign.

The white toothbrush-heads of Apple’s Airpods have become an iconic new technology, and are to be seen everywhere this year, having sold 28 million worldwide.

But could wireless Bluetooth headphones such as Airpods pose a cancer risk?

A group of 250 experts have signed a United Nations and World Health Organisation expressing ‘serious concern’ about the risks of Airpods and similar wireless headphones, as well as other wireless devices.

Devices such as Airpods comply with legal limits for electromagnetic frequency (EMF) radio waves – but the 250 experts worry that the guidelines are too lax.

Jerry Phillips, a professor of biochemistry at the University of Colorado said that wireless headphones pose a particular concern due to the fact they’re worn in the ear canal.

Philips said, ‘My concern for AirPods is that their placement in the ear canal exposes tissues in the head to relatively high levels of radio-frequency radiation.’
