Switzerland: Electrohypersensitive people can't take it anymore!

A petition has been launched for people suffering from electrohypersensitivity (EHS) to be recognized.

In Bern, the Federal Council has just confirmed that it will do nothing in Switzerland to monitor the compliance of smartphones with radiation safety standards, unlike in France. This news distresses Marie Gontier, head of the “Suisse-electrosensible” association : “More and more Swiss citizens are declaring themselves electrohypersensitive (EHS), she observes. These people make a direct link between their symptoms and exposure to electromagnetic waves.

Marie Gontier has launched a petition to the federal authorities, so that EHS sufferers can have their disability recognized and their rights asserted. By becoming EHS sufferers, some people no longer have access to their fundamental rights. It's a grave injustice," confides one of her patients. "There's no infrastructure, no white zones, all you can do is hide out and sometimes go illegal to survive. No doctor has a shielded office. We can no longer participate in society..."

Supporting studies, EHS people are not imaginary patients and their disorders are medically measurable: memory loss, difficulty concentrating, sleep disorders, tinnitus, headaches, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, nausea, burning sensation, intense fatigue or feeling of exhaustion. All their conditions “are likely to affect the capacity to work”.

“Is it simpler politically and socially to turn a blind eye to a disturbing reality? Marie Gontier finally asks. Would electrohypersensitivity call into question our all-digital future, where we see progress only through technocratic paradigms?

The objective of the petition

Electrohypersensitivity is a disabling pathology whose development is rapidly accelerating in connection with the development of wireless technologies. It is a pathology recognized and described by the WHO. In Sweden it is a disability, in England it is an illness. The European Parliament as well as several American and Canadian cities have recognized the physiological reality of this intolerance. This is also the case for many doctors around the world 2. In France, AFSSET (French Environmental and Occupational Health Safety Agency) clearly states its identity and EHS people can receive compensation due to their disability. In Switzerland, thanks to the MedNIS 3 project, set up in 2023, official recognition is finally taking place. However, recognizing an illness does not yet provide legal protection for it. The objective of this petition is to ask Switzerland to legally protect these citizens in this crucial area and to no longer turn a blind eye to increasingly numerous dramatic life situations.
