A major U.S. government study on rats has found a link between cellphones and cancer, an explosive finding in the long-running debate about whether mobile phones cause health effects.

The multiyear, peer-reviewed study, by the National Toxicology Program, found “low incidences” of two types of tumors in male rats that were exposed to the type of radio frequencies that are commonly emitted by cellphones. The tumors were gliomas, which are in the glial cells of the brain, and schwannomas of the heart.

I have had the privilege of reviewing the attached document, Root Cause in the Dramatic Rise of Chronic Disease. The author, Rich Lear, specializes in pattern recognition. He has mined our U.S. government databases and identified 40 diseases that have more than doubled since 1990, some exponentially. As many have already concluded they cannot be primarily genetic since we have not gone cradle-to-grave with even one generation in that time span so the cause must be environmental toxins.

It was their grit and determination that startled every onlooker and even the police.

Two mothers in their 30's, climbed up a 40-50 feet tall cell phone tower Wednesday morning and stood to their ground till evening without having a proper meal or enough water to drink till late in the evening, with a sole objective.

They want the cell phone tower to be removed from their neighbourhood and nothing less than that.

The incident took place in B-section of Addagutta basti which is one of the largest slums in the country. The cell phone tower was installed on top of a three-storeyed building in the locality about a month ago and the agitation against the same has been on since then.

About 15 days back, the house owner, according to the dwellers there, had promised to remove the tower on request of the residents of the colony. However, they say that nothing has been done and tower is set to be operationalised in the coming days.

A businessman who claimed using his mobile phone for six hours a day gave him brain cancer has died at the age of 44.

Ian Phillips spent his last months warning about the risks of long exposure to radiation from mobiles.

After going to hospital with a bad headache, he was given the devastating news he had a lemon-sized brain tumour - and has just three years to live.

Mr Phillips claimed his cancer was caused by excessive use of his mobile phone, as his job as an operations manager for a large firm required him to spend more than 100 hours a month making calls.

Introduction:  Tinnitus is a multifactorial condition and its prevalence has increased on the past decades. The worldwide progressive increase of the use of cell phones has exposed the peripheral auditory pathways to a higher dose of electromagnetic radiofrequency radiation (EMRFR). Some tinnitus patients report that the abusive use of mobiles, especially when repeated in the same ear, might worsen ipsilateral tinnitus.

There have been a lot of articles on virtual reality headsets, but very few about the dangers, especially for children.  One article in a Swiss newspaper says that manufacturers will soon be making headsets for children.  This is yet another - and very worrying assault - on the health of young people, who are much more vulnerable to the risks of microwave radiofrequency radiation-emitting devices such as these headsets.  We wish to make more visible the warnings concerning use of these devices in a series of posts.

Here is the first one:  the health and safety information contained in the 60-page user's manual for the Samsung Gear VR headset:  How many times have we heard of teachers in schools giving such devices to children?  Or, of elderly persons using these devices?  The manual says children under age 13 should not use this device because they may be at "increased health and safety risk".  The manual also recommends that you should "consult with a doctor before using the device if you are pregnant, elderly, have psychiatric disorders, suffer from a heart condition, have pre-existing binocular vision abnormalities or suffer from a heart condition or other serious medical condition."

Disappointingly, in mentioning microwave radiofrequency emissions, the manual only considers interference with  the operation of nearby electronics, including implanted medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers.

We wish to highlight our concern over the safety of exposure to microwave radiation from wireless technology, particularly for vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with compromised health. 

There is growing concern that chronic (long-term) exposure to radiofrequency/microwave radiation from wireless technologies causes damage, particularly genetic damage, cognitive damage, cancer and decreased fertility. There is now substantial evidence of a link between mobile phone use and brain cancer. This was recognised by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)’s 30-strong panel of scientists, which in 2011 classed radiofrequency radiation as “possibly carcinogenic”. 

Additionally, doctors are encountering a significant and growing number of people presenting with a range of acute (short-term) symptoms from wireless radiation, including headaches, palpitations, rashes, fatigue, sleep disturbance, allergies and memory and concentration problems.

"It is in children, due to their extreme vulnerability, that major disorders tied to electromagnetic fields are to be feared the most.  Children aged two to three years old have been brought to me for consultation, even infants of three to four months, shrieking with pain, pointing to their temple with their fingers when, by chance, they find themselves near a Wi-Fi router.  I have examined older children and adolescents presenting headaches, attention, concentration, and memory disorders, where I am told that at school, "collège", high school, a relay antenna or computers with Wi-Fi have been installed and the teacher does not understand why these children or adolescents are dyslexic or have behavioral disorders.  A child's intolerance can become such that, being unable to enter the classroom, he refuses purely and simply to go to school.  It is clear that the risk of psychosis cannot be excluded, although our current understanding is that we do not have proof of this.

Author’s note: I wrote this blog post with knowledge of the ongoing tritium leaks plaguing a number of nuclear power reactors in the U.S., but before the latest high levels of tritium released from the Indian Point reactor in New York were reported. These recent unplanned and largely unaccounted for releases bring into stark relief the need to measure in real time the releases we DO initially control; further, it is reasonable to request public access to these data.

Humans have known of natural radioactivity since about the turn of the 20th century when Marie Curie carried around vials of radioactive substances in her pocket, admiring the glow-in-the-dark “fairy lights” they would give off. Long-term exposure to these “fairly lights” made Curie chronically ill, physically scarred, and nearly blind from cataracts. At the age of 66, she succumbed to a radiation-induced disease (either leukemia or aplastic anemia, sources differ), as did her daughter and son-in-law. Despite being deeply troubled by deaths of colleagues and radiation workers, the Curies never really admitted radioactivity played a role in their diseases; Marie even recommended sickened radium dial painters eat calf’s liver to combat anemia. Daughter Eva, who outlived her sister by 50 years, died at 102 and recognized the role radiation played in the shortened lives of her female kin.
