Deployment of 5G: the Federal Council insists on moving forward despite opposition from the majority of Swiss citizens
Stop5G Association - Press release, 24 April 2020 - translation by the Editor of "Towards Better Health"

Bern, 24 April 2020 - Last November, the Confederation failed to take a position on the risks associated with 5G. Against this backdrop of great political and scientific uncertainty, on 22 April 2020, the Federal Council announced that it wanted to force the deployment of this new technology, even though according to a recent poll a majority of the Swiss population is opposed to it. At the same time, the abandonment, in full confinement, of the investigation into the modification of existing antennas into 5G antennas constitutes a real denial of democracy.

In the midst of this serious crisis, the Federal Council has once again presented the Swiss people with a "fait accompli" on the subject of 5G.

Switzerland: The Federal Council wants to develop 5G, but cautiously

by ATS, letemps.ch, 22 April 2020 - translation

As the installation of new 5G antennas continues, the government instructs DETEC to determine the actual radiation exposure of the population. A relaxation of the limit values is not envisaged for the time being.

The Federal Council wants to develop the 5G network in Switzerland, but cautiously in view of the reticence expressed by the population, it announced on Wednesday. For the time being, there is no question of relaxing the limit values for protecting people from non-ionizing radiation.

The Federal Department of Communications (DETEC) will first have to clarify the situation with regard to antennas. The government has instructed it to draw up an "implementation aid" and to first carry out test measurements in order to determine in a transparent manner the actual exposure of the population due to adaptive antennas.

ZURICH (Reuters) - The Swiss government will keep current safety standards for fifth-generation (5G) mobile frequency emissions, it said on Wednesday, settling a debate that has delayed the rollout of the new technology.

Concerns about the potential health impact of 5G emissions have flared in Switzerland, where just over half of people fear that radiation from mobile antennas may be dangerous, a government report last year found.

“The Federal Council (cabinet) wants to maintain for the time being the applicable (emission) limits to protect the population from non-ionizing radiation,” it said in a statement.
It noted that a task force set up to examine the issue had been unable to agree on a joint recommendation on this point, and that parliament had twice refused to relax the radiation exposure limits.

Swiss Government Press Release: "Mobile telephony and 5G: the Federal Council decides what to do next"

"Mobile telephony and 5G: the Federal Council decides what to do next"
Communiqué, Federal Council, Swiss Government, 22 April 2020 - unofficial translation

Bern, 04.22.2020 - Mobile telephony, especially 5G, can play a crucial role in digitization. 5G makes it possible to transmit increased amounts of data faster and more efficiently. However, the development of the 5G network is met with reluctance. In this context, the Federal Council defined, on April 22, 2020, the continuation of the procedure in the matter. DETEC [Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications] must write an implementation aid for the processing of new adaptive antennas. It will also have to implement the support measures proposed in the report of the “Mobile telephony and radiation” working group. The Federal Council does not currently intend to modify the limit values aimed at protecting the population from non-ionizing radiation (NIR).

Smart cities can help us combat the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, in a growing number of countries, smart cities are doing just that. Governments and local authorities are using smart city technology, sensors and data to trace the contacts of people infected with the coronavirus. At the same time, smart cities are also helping in efforts to determine whether social distancing rules are being followed.

On the one hand, such applications of smart technology are exciting and invaluable, particularly in nations that have managed to keep Covid-19 case numbers relatively low, such as South Korea.

But on the other hand, the use of masses of connected sensors makes it clear that the coronavirus pandemic is–intentionally or not–being used as a testbed for new surveillance technologies that may threaten privacy and civil liberties. So aside from being a global health crisis, the coronavirus has effectively become an experiment in how to monitor and control people at scale.

Facts Matter, Now More Than Ever

microwavenews.com, April 9, 2020

We’re all frazzled and anxious. The world has changed, seemingly overnight, and we don’t know when and how we will ever go back to normal —whatever that means. One thing we don’t have to worry about is whether 5G radiation is responsible for COVID-19. It’s not. There’s no credible evidence to suggest otherwise.

Lots of data show that various types of RF radiation can affect our immune systems.* But, like everything else about electromagnetic radiation, the necessary follow-up research was never done and no one knows for sure if electronic smog makes us more vulnerable to disease. I’ll leave that conversation for another time.

Yet, there is at least one parallel between how we’ve been struggling with COVID-19 over the last few months and how we have been dealing with electromagnetic radiation for the last few decades. In each case, science has taken a back seat to politics. The failure to separate fact from fiction has made the battle against the coronavirus far worse, especially in the U.S. Much the same can be said of how governments and scientific committees have addressed electromagnetic health risks.

France is Right, Kids Home During the Pandemic Shouldn't Use Phones for Hours

France is right, kids home during the pandemic shouldn’t use phones for hours

The US should follow the lead of France when it comes to testing the radiation from mobile phones, writes Devra Davis, arguing that we still don’t really know how safe the devices and their networks are.

Phones are an ubiquitous part of life.
Dr Devra Davis, the founder of EHTrust.org, served in the Clinton Administration from 1994-1999 and was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change team awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

In these worrying times when a new highly contagious virus has ended life as we once knew it, we increasingly rely on mobile phones to allow us some sense of connection to those we care about. But, just how safe are these now-ubiquitous, essential devices and the networks on which they rely?

United States: Tell Your Municipality to Pass an Emergency Ordinance to Stop Deployment of 5G During Quarantine

Tell Your Municipality to Pass an Emergency Ordinance to Stop Deployment of 5G During Quarantine
childrenshealthdefense.org, 2 April 2020

Deployment of Wireless During Quarantine Can be Stopped Legally – Here’s How:

Since the beginning of the Quarantine, we have been receiving an overwhelming number of reports from concerned citizens and parents who have been witnessing the aggressive expansion of cellular antenna installations in communities across the country. The vast majority of this activity is occurring without the knowledge or consent of our citizens and is without local government oversight, application approval, public noticing, community participation, environmental review, and most importantly, transparency. Clearly, the telecom companies are using the COVID-19 emergency as cover to expand and cement their rapid and virtually unsupervised deployment of harmful wireless infrastructure and to advance their agenda. To stop this activity and as part of our promise to be pro-active and solutions-oriented with our efforts, the Children’s Health Defense legal team came up with a legal solution.

Following the Homeland Security and the FCC orders, local authorities have emergency powers to place a moratorium on non-essential activity, including to pause all pending wireless zoning and right-of-way applications and to shut down new wireless construction.

United States: SUCCESS: The Children’s Health Defense Forced FCC to Publish in the Federal Register, Blocking it from Dismissing Lawsuits

The FCC will have no basis to seek dismissal of Children Health Defense’s (CHD) or the Environmental Health Trust’s (EHT) case and will likely prevent the FCC from being able to control venue – where the cases will be heard.

SUCCESS: The Children’s Health Defense Forced FCC to Publish in the Federal Register, Blocking it from Dismissing Lawsuits
By Dafna Tachover, CHD’s Director of 5G & Wireless Harms Project

On April 1st, 2020, the FCC finally published its December 4, 2019 “RF Order” (FCC 19-126) in the Federal Register. The Federal Register notice addresses the FCC’s outrageous refusal to update its RF exposure limits or reconsider whether outer ears should be treated differently than other extremities since users often place cell phones on the ear (Docket 13-84), the final rule amendments making it easier to prove compliance with the outdated rules (Docket 03-137). The publication in the Federal Register follows Children’s Health Defense’s (CHD) motion in its case against the FCC, CHD v FCC, to force the FCC to publish its decision. As a result, the FCC will have no basis to seek dismissal of CHD’s or the Environmental Health Trust’s (EHT) case and will likely prevent the FCC from being able to control venue – where the cases will be heard. The FCC much prefers the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
