Electrohypersensitivity Is On the Rise (Article from Spain)

Technological communities of refugees without mobile
phones or wireless networks are starting to proliferate.

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity, an unknown disorder, is on the rise

Wi-Fi radiation is the main cause of an impairment - a  thousand cases have already been registered at the Clínic.

At the same speed that the presence of electromagnetic waves is increasing in the environment - emitted by telephone antennas, power lines or Wi-Fi networks - so is the activity of Dr. Joaquín Fernández Solà, chronic fatigue unit coordinator at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona.  Fernández Solà is one of the pioneers in the treatment of electromagnetic hypersensitivity in the State, a condition not recognized as a disease but each day affecting more people. The Clínic has already treated more than one thousand cases, 60% of which are caused by wireless networks.

"Electrosensitivity is increasingly making more impact. We started ten years ago to receive isolated cases and now they are common," describes Fernández Solà. "We are currently living, exposed to a massive amount of radiation, which has not been proven to be safe.  We are conducting a biological and social experiment because we are exposing a lot of people to something for which there is no safety principle," he explains. "Moreover, we know that there is no security because people are appearing with more symptoms."

WHO sees no danger

Fernández Solà's conviction, however, clashes with a part of the scientific community which denies the danger of this radiation. The World Health Organization (WHO) does not consider electrosensitivity as a disease. "It is not medically recognized. These waves are emitted by companies that are at the top of all stock indexes," says the doctor.

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity affects one in every thousand people in the world, with an incidence up to eight times higher in women than in men, for hormonal reasons. Symptoms are multiple, usually consisting of irritable or severe headaches and nausea, among others. The difficulty in detecting the problem lies mainly in the fact that it can cause the same symptoms as many other types of conditions such as the common cold.

For this reason, Minerva Palomar went from doctor to doctor for a decade to find out what was happening. "I started being sick in 1997, but I was diagnosed and what happened to me was clearly explained almost ten years later.  At first, I did not believe it because I am very skeptical," she recalls. She is currently the president of the Electrosensitive Association for the Right to Health, created in late 2012 due to the steady increase in cases and the lack of places to go for answers. "At this time, nearly 3,000 people across Spain have approached us with inquiries," she says.

In recent years, judges around the world have recognized cases of incapacity of several people affected by electrosensitivity. In the State, the first case occurred in August, when the High Court of Madrid gave a telecommunications engineer a disability allowance. In several parts of the world, technological communities of refugees have also proliferated. One of the best known is in the United States, in the village of Green Bank, in the state of West Virginia, where there are no mobile phones or wireless networks due to the presence of one of the largest radio telescopes in the world.  If waves are being emitted by these devices, the radio telescope does not work properly and, therefore, these have been banned.

Phone mast

For Montse Ferrer. it was relatively easy to discover the source of her evil. In 2007 she began to suffer from extreme sweating while sleeping at night and severe headaches. "It was like my head was split in half.  I was in extreme pain," she recalls. The cause: the installation of a phone mast just over 20 meters from her bedroom, on the fifth floor of a building located in Mataro. Montse measured the radiation which was ten times higher than that recommended by the Council of Europe. "Since then, I've been sleeping in the dining room and we had to install a shutter and a lining of aluminum on the window overlooking the antenna to reduce the impact," she explains.

"We must prevent this radiation, the same as with tobacco.  For 500 years, we've been observing its toxic effects and did not recognize them until it was a global disaster with cancer everywhere and a major economic and social scandal" claims Fernández Solà, warning that this radiation can be a cause of increased brain tumors. In fact, the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) in Barcelona led an international study in 2015 in which, for the first time, a positive correlation between the risk of developing a brain tumor and the level of occupational exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields was observed.

The doctor also warns of the danger of high radiation exposures of this kind to children. "There are children who are connected 12 hours a day to some electronic device and it is terrible for a growing brain," he warns. "We must rationalize the use of technology," he concludes.

"In the end, my husband and I have had to solve the problem alone."

"I started to notice that something was wrong because I began to sweat and get nervous sitting in front of the TV and did not understand the reason," expresses Mari Carmen Sanchez. "At first,I did not give it importance, but later when talking on the cell phone, I noticed very strong pain, like I was pierced by lightning, and it was getting worse," she adds.

Mari Carmen Sanchez has been suffering from electromagnetic hypersensitivity and chemical sensitivity since 2007. But as in most cases she did not know until later. She was ill, but no one knew what caused her the state that left her for almost a year in bed. When she discovered the cause of the evil, the only solution that the doctors offered was to live in isolation. And that was hard to take for a professionally active person with four children.

It was not until she discovered the Alborada Foundation in Madrid, which works with environmental pathologies, that she noted some improvements. "At home I had to control the whole environment, and eliminate fresheners, soaps, fabric softeners, and cleaning products. In the hospital, I was treated with vitamins and vaccines that helped reduce my hypersensitivity" she explains.

She now lives in a residential area near Torredembarra, next to a forest, in a place with a small population and few phone masts and wireless networks. "In the end, my husband and I had to solve the problem alone, adapting life to my pathology, as there is still much ignorance of this deplorable disease. It is very hard both economically and socially. I do not want to live isolated".

  1. Please advise where these communities are "proliferating?" To use the word proliferate, and then only mention one actual place, Green Bank, is misleading and erroneous. The worst of it is, people like myself with EHS get our hopes up, hoping you have some useful information for us to save our lives. Please, if you actually know of or located other communities, please share this information in your article. Otherwise stop using false statements to get attention and readership.

  3. I come across people all the time that dont know they have this. While sitting around waiting i found a guy who was also waiting so we decided to pull out our laptops and play a game together over wifi. His face got red, he started sneezing, started stumbl8ng over his speech and he gollstarted complain8ng about having a headache, all symptoms of EHS. I didnt even waste my time trying to tell him about it. I've switched to a survival of the fitest mentality and only show family members any more

  4. I was interviewed by Lloyd Burrell of ElectricSense on Oct. 26th, 2017. One lady wrote me saying the interview was "gripping." 20 pages of my story are dedicated to my EMF experience and my approach to recovery. That too got "very interesting" by listeners. May God be with us as we stumble through life, learning the hard way. Lol. https://www.amazon.com/Getting-Well-Gods-Kathy-Bates/dp/1508839514/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
