Wireless Radiation: New Awareness Campaigns Launched by Cyprus and Italy

Compare the awareness campaign on environmental and health impacts of mobile phone use recently launched by the Italian Government with that of Cyprus regarding how to reduce wireless radiation exposures.

Cyprus has launched an awareness campaign to educate the public on how to reduce wireless radiation exposures. The campaign includes large scale signs on pubic buses with the slogan “Don’t Irradiate Me: Learn How to Protect Me” along with posters, brochures and videos translated into both Greek and English.

The Campaign was launched at a press conference June 24, 2019 with recommendations include simple advice on how to protect children at home




1.Use wired connections for your devices (laptops, televisions, video game consoles etc.);
2. Deactivate all wireless connections of your devices (Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth);
3. Turn the routers off at night and when not in use, especially when children are at home;
4. Deactivate your cell phones when you sleep;
5. Use your tablets, cell phone or other wireless devices only when needed, and keep distance from children and pregnant women;
6. Prefer a landline telephone whenever possible. This applies both for adults as well as children;
7. Children should only use wireless devices for a limited time period proportionately to their age, and always in flight mode and with the Wi-Fi deactivated;
8. The use of cell phones is not recommended for children under 16 years of age. It must be limited and always with the use of wired headset or speakerphone.
9. Demand that kindergarten and schools use only wired internet connection"

The campaign is based on authoritative and scientifically based information on four points:

"You can reduce your exposure to electro-
magnetic waves by using messaging,
speakerphone or headset."

• exposure to electromagnetic waves from cellular and cordless phones: useful tips for reducing exposure, research point, safety requirements for radio and base stations;
• interference of electromagnetic waves on medical devices: what is good to know if you wear a pacemaker;
• health protection: useful advice related to distraction while driving, data and information on distraction accidents;
• respect for the environment: the instructions to properly dispose of the old mobile even at the sales points.

The campaign involves the distribution of a commercial on the RAI television networks and four videos and four infographics through the social networks of the Ministries.
