Call to harm goes up as Dadar Matunga residents urged to fight mobile phone tower radiation problems; ire and fire marks three-hour long meet on issue

(Mumbai) It was dial R for radiation and rage on Sunday, April 28 morning as residents from the Dadar, Wadala and Matunga areas came together to protest, learn and listen to views of people. These experts and activists were citing possible hazards posed by radiation from the antennae of mushrooming mobile phone towers on buildings at the leafy, green Dadar Parsi Colony and adjoining areas.

The aim was to educate, inform and frankly as activists stated, awaken citizens and residents into action so that they join the movement against cell phone towers. Currently, medical opinion, seems to be cleaved into two, there are doctors who cite ‘inconclusive medical evidence’ about the effect of cell tower radiation (there are hospitals in the city which have a cell phone tower on their terrace) to others who say that effects may lead to cancer and a host of other illnesses. The meet was held under the aegis of the Forum Against Cell Tower Radiation (F.A.C.T.) Dadar-Matunga.

Alzheimer's Disease: "Type 3 Diabetes"?

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. This fatal and progressive condition destroys brain cells, resulting in memory loss and severe thinking and behavioral problems (aggression, delusions, and hallucinations) that interfere with daily life and activities.

The disease is currently at epidemic proportions, with 5.4 million Americans — including one in eight people aged 65 and over — living with Alzheimer's disease. By 2050, this is expected to jump to 16 million, and in the next 20 years it is projected that Alzheimer's will affect one in four Americans. If that comes to pass, it would then be more prevalent than obesity and diabetes is today.

A growing body of research suggests there may be a powerful connection between the foods you eat and your risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, via similar pathways that cause type 2 diabetes. Some have even re-named Alzheimer's as "type 3 diabetes."

At the end of the article is a list of tips for avoiding Alzheimer's Disease.

United States: Addictive Junk Food: One Reason for Ranking So Low in Life Expectancy

Here is one reason the United States ranks so low in life expectancy: the obesity and diabetes epidemic, for which we can, in part, thank addictive junk food.

One-quarter to one third of American and Canadian adults are in the obese. That means, a staggering two-thirds of Americans are overweight. This is driving up rates. According to the latest report from the American Diabetes Association, an estimated 22.3 million people were living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes in 2012, up from 17.5 million in 2007. Last year, 246,000 deaths were attributed to diabetes. The UK also recently released updated statistics, showing a record three million Britons are now diagnosed with diabetes, which equates to 4.6 percent of the British population. Another 850,000 Britons are believed to have undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes.

The total cost of diagnosed diabetes in the US last year was $245 billion.  Obesity also drives rising rates of heart disease, kidney failure, gout, and blindness, just to name a few associated health problems, all of which contribute to soaring health care costs.

So who or what is to blame? As it turns out, poor will power is NOT the heart of the matter.

Chernobyl Nuclear Catastrophe : Facts and Figures

chernobyl-international.com

The Chernobyl meltdown was the biggest nuclear catastrophe in world history, and its effects will be felt for centuries. Radioactive wastes with half-lives lasting tens of thousands of years continue to poison the environment and affect the very genetic material of the people who must live within it.

It’s hard for the rest of the world to imagine the devastation this disaster has visited on the people, the children and the land.

Because of the unprecedented scale of the accident, even scientists and subject experts can’t predict what the future holds for those who live in the shadow of Chernobyl.

The facts and figures listed below can’t capture the misery and anguish that the people of Belarus, Western Russia and Ukraine experience in the aftermath of the explosion, but they offer a sense of the incredible magnitude of the challenges these communities face.

Children

· Today in Ukraine, 6,000 children are born every year with genetic heart defects. More than 3,000 will die for lack of medical attention.

Are Video Game Systems Harmful?

Many video game systems use Wi-Fi which emits electromagnetic radiation (EMR).  There is no evidence that the frequencies emitted by Wi-Fi are safe, and plenty of data on sensitive kids getting headaches, cardiac arrhythmias, and more while at school. These symptoms wane when they are out of the school buildings for weekends and vacations.  Outside of school, children are being exposed to radio frequency when using game systems like Xbox and Wii.  Environmental engineers doing testing in the field say that these wireless video game systems emit dangerous EMR, and those emissions continue even when the units are turned off.

Dr. Sinatra wondered if there was any warning in the fine print of game manuals.  Following this article are the warnings contained in the manual of the Nintendo Wii games.  Nothing about the dangers of EMR, but there is mention of other health effects including seizures, repetitive motion injuries, eye strain, motion sickness, and radiofrequency (RF) interference with pacemakers. The manual seems more concerned about the effects of RF waves on the operation of nearby electronics than on the human body!

Child Leukemia Rates Increase Near U.S. Nuclear Power Plants

Leukemia death rates in U.S. children living near nuclear reactors (especially the oldest ones) rose sharply (vs. the national trend) in the past two decades, according to a 2009 study. It is likely that the rates are continuing to rise. Over half of U.S. nuclear reactors are over 30 years old and almost all are over twenty years old.

The carcinogenic effects of radiation exposure are most severe among infants and children.

(NEW YORK) – Leukemia death rates in U.S. children near nuclear reactors rose sharply (vs. the national trend) in the past two decades, according to a recent study.

The greatest mortality increases occurred near the oldest nuclear plants, while declines were observed near plants that closed permanently in the 1980s and 1990s. The study was published in the most recent issue of the European Journal of Cancer Care.

Cell Phone Radiation May Trigger Allergies

Cell phones raise certain chemicals in the blood which provoke
allergic reactions such as eczema, asthma, and hayfever.
The 2013 allergy season  could be the worst ever.  Although some attribute this to climate change, cell phone radiation is a factor that may intensify allergic reactions.  The radiation emitted by cell phones and other wireless devices and household appliances has been called "more dangerous" than asbestos or smoking.  Yet, we continue to remain deaf, dumb, and blind to this fact.

Allergic diseases are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, with an annual cost of $18 billion, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies annually. Asthma afflicts about 20 million Americans, and is rising around the world.

Do you know that EMF/EMR also known as Electro pollution is considered one of the biggest stressors and health risks of the 21st century?

The radiation from mobile phones, ipods, TV’s, computer screens, microwaves and other household appliances has been found to be more dangerous than asbestos or smoking according to one of Australia’s top neurosurgeons, DR Vini Khurana at Canberra Hospital. The World Health Authority rates EMF as a Level 2 toxin on the same level as DDT and Lead.

Children's Cell Phone Use May Increase Their Risk of ADHD

Children must learn to switch off their
cell phones
Eleven percent of American children have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) including nearly one in five high school age boys according to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although we may be over-diagnosing ADHD and over-medicating children for this disorder, the 53 percent increase in ADHD diagnoses during the past decade may be attributable in part to increased exposure to environmental toxins in conjunction with exposure to microwave radiation from cell phones.

Children's Cell Phone Use May Increase Their Risk of ADHD

A new study finds that children who use cell phones who are exposed to lead are at greater risk of developing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder than lead-exposed children who do not use cell phones much or at all.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 2, 2013 - BERKELEY, Calif. -- Eleven percent of American children have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) including nearly one in five high school age boys according to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (1)

United States: ADHD Seen in 11% of Children as Diagnoses Rise

“Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.) has historically been estimated to affect 3 to 7 percent of children. The disorder has no definitive test and is determined only by speaking extensively with patients, parents and teachers, and ruling out other possible causes — a subjective process that is often skipped under time constraints and pressure from parents. It is considered a chronic condition that is often carried into adulthood.”

Few people consider environmental factors as a cause of ADHD – like exposure to the electromagnetic radiation from wireless technologies, which many young people use for long periods throughout the day, or certain food additives. Other factors implicated in the rising rates of ADHD are the aggressive marketing by pharmaceutical companies of drugs used to treat ADHD and parent and school pressure to improve a child’s performance or control his behavior. Drugs used to treat ADHD can lead to addiction, anxiety and occasionally psychosis.

A new study finds that children who use cell phones who are exposed to lead are at greater risk of developing ADHD that lead-exposed children who do not use cell phones much or at all.  Advice to parents:  Encourage your children to switch off their cell phones! (See "Children's Cell Phone Use May Increase Their Risk of ADHD".)

Your Cell Phone and Your Heart Health - and Your Brain!

The following letter, written by three doctors who specialize in the health effects of electromagnetic radiation, is in response to the recent New York Times article on mobile phones and heart health. Thank you for this letter.  We must educate journalists and the mainstream media regarding this very important health issue.

Your Phone and Your Heart Health - and your Brain!

Our increasing dependency on electronic communication can impair our social interactions, as reported by Dr Barbara Fredrickson in Sunday's editorial Your Phone vs Your Heart.

We want to draw your attention to another vital cost that she did not mention: adverse health effects from the microwave radiation emitted by all mobile devices. No doubt you have heard the unsettling evidence of DNA damage and risk of brain cancer. There is also strong evidence of potential cognitive impairment and cardiac symptoms.

Well-being in this high-tech digital age is becoming complicated and inconvenient as wireless radiation quite literally envelops the globe. The smog of this electro-pollution is a new factor in environmental health and possibly the greatest medical threat of our time.
