After a viral premiere at the Ko Festival of Performance, Piti Theatre’s “Canary in a Gold Mine” comes to the DC Independent Film Festival in Washington, DC on March 3rd at 6:30 pm and Saturday, March 4th at 4:15 pm, Landmark E Street Cinema Theatre, 555 11th Street, NW.

A unique blend of theatre and documentary, “Canary” uses humor to explore fatherhood, marriage and environmental health. Writer/Performer/Director Jonathan Mirin describes the show as "like theater … but flatter." A new case report on two previously healthy men who developed “microwave syndrome” symptoms after a 5G cell tower was installed on the roof of their office, and a similar report published last month, show that non-ionizing 5G radiation can cause health problems in people with no prior history of electromagnetic sensitivity.

A new case report shows that two previously healthy men rapidly developed typical “microwave syndrome” symptoms shortly after a 5G cell tower was installed on the roof of their office.

According to the report, published Feb. 4 in the Annals of Clinical Case Reports, the men experienced headaches, joint pain, tinnitus, abnormal fatigue, sleep disturbances, burning skin, anxiety and trouble concentrating.

The findings match the results of a similar case report published last month in the same journal — that appeared earlier in the Swedish journal Medicinsk Access — showing a previously healthy man and woman developed similar microwave syndrome symptoms soon after a 5G tower was installed on top of their apartment.

Health advocates and others want the Federal Communications Commission to recognize the risks to people and the environment from wireless radiation.

When asked if there are any health problems with the wireless radiation emitted by those facilities, many local officials were silent.

“We don’t have anything really to say on that subject,” said Jodie Pond, the director of the Teton County Health Department.

“This would not fall under the DEQ’s authority or expertise,” said Keith Guille, outreach officer of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.

Feb. 22, 2022 — In this high-tech era, wearable devices such as smartwatches have proven to be invaluable companions for the health conscious. But a new study from the University of Utah shows that for a small group of people, some of these electronic fitness gadgets could possibly be risky to their health — even potentially deadly.

University of Utah electrical and computer engineering assistant professor Benjamin Sanchez Terrones and U associate professor of medicine Benjamin Steinberg have published a new study that shows wearable devices such as the Samsung Galaxy watch 4, Fitbit smart scales, or Moodmetric smart rings, among others, have sensing technology that could interfere with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) such as pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices.

Abstract

The 5th generation, 5G, for wireless communication is rolled out without previous studies on potential effects on human health and the environment. In this case study we describe two men, case 1 and case 2, working in three office rooms close to base stations. After the deployment of 5G, both men developed symptoms typical for the microwave syndrome, e.g., headache, tinnitus, dizziness, balance disorder, concentration and attention deficiency, and fatigue. Radiofrequency Radiation (RFR) after the 5G deployment was measured in the three offices. In office one maximum (peak) RFR during one minute varied from 463 to 1,180,000 µW/m2 , in office two from 6,230 to 501,000 and in office three from 13,700 to 613,000 µW/m2 .The symptoms disappeared in both men within a couple of weeks (case 1) or immediately (case 2) after leaving the office for other offices with much lower maximum peak RFR emissions, maximum for case 1 =16 and for case 2 =2,920 µW/m2 . This case report may be regarded as a provocation study on health from 5G RFR. The clinical picture in both men was clearly related to the exposure, although the exposures were well below the guidelines recommended by ICNIRP that are claimed to protect against all health effects. We conclude that the guidelines for RFR exposure based only on tissue heating by ICNIRP are inadequate to protect human health and that 5G appears to provoke symptoms of microwave syndrome in previously healthy people.

Introduction

Although there is a controversy regarding the physiological effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on human beings, the EMF-attributed effects are life-disabling for some people. These are called electrohypersensitive (EHS) and their prevalence in the population today is estimated to be in a range of about 4-10 %. To diagnose EHS and submit those individuals to an appropriate treatment has become a medical challenge of significant importance. The symptoms however are relatively non-specific and mainly related to the mental function; because physicians have no objective algorithms to diagnose EHS, these patients are most of the time declared relevant to psychology or even psychiatry.

Objective diagnosis tests are therefore needed and some have been tentatively developed: abnormal values of biochemical parameters observed in EHS individuals have been taken as biomarkers of their disorder and provocation tests were performed by checking those individuals’ reactions in experimental EMF exposure conditions.

India systematically monitors cell tower radiation to ensure compliance with radio frequency exposure limits; however, in the US no agency does this. The FCC, which is captured by industry, responds to complaints about electromagnetic interference but does not systematically monitor cell tower compliance with FCC regulations. The cost of a comprehensive monitoring system would likely be covered by the fines assessed to industry for noncompliance. Moreover, workers and the public would be better protected from intense exposure to cell tower radiation."

Our summary of article: "As on 31.12.2022, Licensed Service Area (LSA) field units of DoT have tested 11.6 lakh [1.16 million] Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) across the country to check the compliance to prescribed Electromagnetic Field (EMF) radiation norms, out of which a total of 320 BTSs were found exceeding the prescribed EMF limits." Penalties of Rs 13.10 crore ($131 million) have been recovered from defaulting telcom service providers for exceeding the prescribed EMF limits, Minister of State for Communications said.

Telecom Department field units have tested as many as 11.6 lakh BTSs across the country for compliance to stipulated EMF radiation norms as on December 2022, of which 320 were found exceeding prescribed limits, Parliament was informed on Friday. As on December 31, 2022, penalties of Rs 13.10 crore have been recovered from defaulting telcom service providers for exceeding the prescribed EMF limits, Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
