Cell Phones and Children: Follow the Precautionary Road
The journal of Pediatric Nursing has published an excellent article by Suzanne Rosenberg, MS, RN, Assistant Professor, Health Sciences, LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City, New York, in its March-April 2013 edition. Following are the abstract, recommendations and conclusions of her article. Click here for document in full.
Abstract
Children are increasingly using cell phones. "Family package" deals make it easy for parents to obtain phones for their children, and the phones provide parents with the comfort of easy access to their children. However, cell phones emit radio frequency (RF) radiation (Bucher & the Committee on Appropriations, 2010). While the government has deemed RF radiation to be safe, there is no current significant research to make this claim. To determine the relationship between cell phone radiation and brain cancer requires long-term studies lasting decades and with inclusion of frequent users in the subject pool. Further, to extend the results of any study to children requires controlling for the differences between juveniles and adults regarding the composition of the head, and bone density and neural tissue. Dr. L. Hardell of the University Hospital of Sweden noted that "it is necessary to apply the precautionary principle in this situation," especially for long-term exposure that is likely to affect children (Hardell as cited in Mead, 2008, p. 1). There is cause for concern. (Pediatric Nursing, 2013 Mar-Apr; 39(2):65-70. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23705297)

Addicted to Your Cell Phone? Here's What You Need to Know
Addicted to your cell phone?
by Zeenia Baria, The Times of India, 24 May 2013
Here's what you need to know...
While cell phones have become an indispensable part of our lives, over-attachment and over-dependence on them can spell doom for your health. Here, experts reveal why too much usage can cause you more harm than good...
Reduces sperm count
Gynaecologist and infertility specialist Dr Nandita Palshetkar says that the high-frequency electromagnetic radiation that cell phones emit may be associated with increased risk of brain tumours. "However, other tissues in the body such as the testes may also be sensitive to these cell phone-radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. Cell phone fields, because of their frequency and intensity, are prone to increasing temperature in tissues close to where they are used. Men who use hands-free devices tend to carry their cell phones in their pants pocket or clipped to their belts at the waist while in talk mode. As a result, they may be exposing their testicles to damaging radiofrequency electromagnetic waves. When placed close to the testes, such as in a pocket or on the hip, cell phones have been found to be associated with reduced sperm motility and concentration. Even cell phones that are at rest are emitting signals as they constantly monitor the airwaves for a signal. This seemed to be more associated with the length of time in the proximity of the testes," says Dr Palshetkar.

Contrary to a common medical practice worldwide, one of Canada’s few experts in environmental medicine says avoiding pollutants and detoxifying the body are the best ways of reducing symptoms of environmental sensitivities and that use of neuroactive drugs is a risky last resort.

Can BioGeometry Ease Electrosensitivity?
In addition to reading the two articles about BioGeometry which follow, view this video: "Hemberg Swiss project on Reuters" where Dr. Ibrahim Karim, an Egyptian architect and founder of the science of BioGeometry, talks about how biogeometric shapes were used in the Swiss village of Hemberg (canton St. Gallen) to alleviate the effects of mobile phone antenna emissions on people and the environment. He says that this could not be due to a placebo effect because the “ecology” improved once the geometrical forms were placed: birds and bats returned to the village and people felt better. Also read this document about the experiment: http://www.scribd.com/doc/121266793/Ibrahim-Karim-Harmonization-With-Biogeometry-Mobile-Radiation-in-Hemberg
Following the success of this project, Dr. Karim was commissioned by the local government of the Swiss town of Hirschberg to implement a similar solution there. The energy-quality balancing of BioGeometry eased the symptoms of electrosensitive persons, among a number of other health conditions, as well as positively impacting the overall ecology of the area, including the health of the livestock in the area.

Former Microsoft Canada Head Joins Fight to Protect Schoolchildren from Wi-Fi

| Frank Clegg |
Dear Ms. Urback,
What you have written is misleading and biased. Please look at the independent, non-industry funded, research which points to biological effects from exposure to electromagnetic (EM) radiation such as that emitted by Wi-Fi. The person in charge of the EM fields project at WHO, Michael Repacholi, was receiving tens of thousands of dollars a year from the telecoms industry, so of course, WHO would play down the health effects of wireless technology. Responsible journalists such as yourself should do your homework and report both sides of the issue. Instead, by implying this technology is safe, you are encouraging the continuation of a developing health disaster which could be as serious as - or moreso than - that of smoking and asbestos.
Furthermore, the comment disparages Frank Clegg, a person who is selflessly devoting himself to raising awareness of the health issues of wireless technology. The issue of Wi-Fi in schools is particularly important because children, whose bodies are still developing, are more vulnerable to electromagnetic radiation.
Here is Ms. Urback's comment:

Cell Phone Use, Acoustic Neuroma and Cancer of the Pituitary Gland
PRLog Press Release, Berkeley, Calif., 10 May 2013
Cell phone use was associated with increased risk of two types of brain tumors in a new study of 790,000 women.
PRLog (Press Release) - May 10, 2013 - BERKELEY, Calif. -- Cell phone use was associated with increased risk of acoustic neuroma and cancer of the pituitary gland in a prospective study of more than 790,000 women in the United Kingdom. (1)
Acoustic neuroma is a rare, non-malignant tumor that develops on the main nerve leading from the inner ear to the brain. The pituitary gland is an organ that produces hormones which regulate important functions of the body and is located in the middle of the base of the brain.
Women who used cell phones for ten or more years were two-and- a-half times more likely to develop an acoustic neuroma. Their risk of acoustic neuroma increased with the number of years they used cell phones.

Denmark: 9th Grade Class Experiments with Cress Exposed to Wi-Fi Attract International Attention
Five girls from a 9th grade class at the Hjallerup School in North Jutland, Denmark, have recently conducted an experiment with cress seeds exposed to wi-fi. After 12 days, the seeds next to two wi-fi routers had not grown, and some of them were even mutated or dead. The seeds in a separate - radiation-free – room sprouted healthily.

Renowned scientists from England, Holland and Sweden have since shown great interest in the girls' project. Professor Olle Johansson at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, is one of the impressed researchers. He will now repeat the experiment with a Belgian research colleague, Professor Marie-Claire Cammaert at the Université libre de Bruxelles.

Skin Conditions from Using a Laptop on the Lap
There is no problem for those who use a laptop, just one hour a day, surrendering to the comfortable habit of using the computer lying in bed with it positioned on top of the lap, if you do not do it every day or spend hours in these conditions.
A 12-year-old boy presented some spots on his left leg. The "burnt leg syndrome" was easily diagnosed by a physician after the boy reported spending hours with a laptop on his lap, and although it heated up, he did not shift its position.

The
following letter, addressed to the Director of the Swiss Federal Office for
Public Health, Mr. Pascal Strupler, was written by the creator of the new site
« Gigasmog » (located in La Neuveville in French-speaking
Switzerland). The purpose of the site is
to inform about the (potential) danger of using wireless technologies
everywhere and under all conditions. “We
are also going to attempt to show how a person who has become
electrohypersensitive (EHS) is able to, in spite of this serious handicap, to remain
with his/her family and assume essential tasks.”
