Teton Village, WY -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/20/2017 -- The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) just issuedlong-awaited recommendations to reduce microwave radiation exposures from cell phones, especially for children due to research showing that "long-term, high use may impact human health." The CDPH guidance was spurred by a lawsuit from Berkeley Professor Joel Moskowitz which revealed that CDPH scientists had drafted more than 27 versions of advice since 2008.

"Cell phones came on the market decades ago without safety testing because it was assumed that non-ionizing radiation could not cause cancer. However the scientific evidence is now clear and compelling, this type of radiation is harmful to our health, " stated Dr. Devra Davis, founder and President of Environmental Health Trust, a research nonprofit.

"Cancer is only one of the serious health issues posed by non-ionizing radiation." Davis pointed to a new study funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences just published by Kaiser Permanente scientists in the journal Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) that found women with the highest magnetic field exposures during pregnancy had nearly three times more miscarriages confirming a 2012 study with similar findings. Davis notes that Kaiser principal investigator De-Kun Li, MD, PhD has previously published findings linking higher prenatal nonionizing radiation exposures to a higher risk of obesity, and a higher risk of asthma.

On Sunday, France’s education minister announced that mobile phones will be banned from primary, junior, and middle schools, calling it a matter of “public health.” While phones are already prohibited in classrooms in France, starting in September 2018 students won’t be allowed to use them on breaks, at lunch, or between lessons either.
“These days, the children don’t play at break time anymore,” Jean-Michel Blanquer said, according to the Local, an English-language publication. “They are just all in front of their smartphones and from an educational point of view, that’s a problem.”

France is to impose a total ban on pupils using mobile phones in primary and secondary schools starting in September 2018, its education minister has confirmed.

Phones are already forbidden in French classrooms but starting next school year, pupils will be barred from taking them out at breaks, lunch times and between lessons.

Teachers and parents are divided over a total ban, however, with some saying children must be able to "live in their time". In France, some 93 per cent of 12 to 17-year-olds own mobile phones.

"These days the children don't play at break time anymore, they are just all in front of their smartphones and from an educational point of view that's a problem," said Jean-Michel Blanquer, the French education minister.

We are more than six billion persons in the world using a mobile phone. It has become an indispensable object of our daily life. Who is interested in the health risks from cell phones? Who has thoroughly read the user manual of their cell phone? Who has studied the regulations that control phones being placed on the market?

Not many of us! Most of us are seduced into trusting manufacturers and national and international organizations which ensure that mobile phones respect our health and safety.

The Federal Council wants a Switzerland that does not have to be ashamed of its digital capabilities. In terms of telephony, the government wants to "place Switzerland at the highest level in international comparison," according to its statement when the strategy "Digital Switzerland" was adopted in April 2016. France's National Health Agency Calls for Reducing Children's Wireless Exposures - Article on the July 2016 Report of ANSES "Exposure to Radiofrequencies and Child Health"

This is the report from ANSES that presented an analysis of test reports of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) levels by the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR).  The 2016 report stated  that in 2015, 89 percent of cell phones  tested in direct body contact  had a SAR higher than the maximum limit value of 2 W/kg and 25 percent had a SAR higher than 4 W/kg.

Dr. Marc Arazi, a French physician, made an inquiry to see the actual data. He was first denied the information by ANFR.  After a court challenge and months of pressure, ANFR posted the information on their website in June 2017. The information, however, is not complete, and Dr. Arazi has been obliged to again take legal action against ANFR in order for them to release all the data on the results of the mobile phone tests, filing an appeal with the Administrative Tribunal of Melun on 1 December 2017.

This month the National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) updated the cell phone information page on its website and the fact sheet which summarizes the NTP cell phone radiation study. See below for a summary of the study and its findings.

The NTP's website indicates that the NIEHS has warned its "federal regulatory partners" (i.e., the Federal Communications Commission and the Food and Drug Administration) that the NTP's research found that cell phone radiation caused cancer in male rats to enable these agencies to provide the latest guidance to the public about safe ways to use cell phones and other radiofrequency radiation-emitting devices.

The France documentation shows that many cell phones on the market can exceed allowable limits by over three times.

Following the loss of his home, Dr. Carlo collaborated with Washington columnist Martin Schram—who in the course of the work did his own research to corroborate Dr. Carlo’s view on things—to write Cell Phones: Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age (Carroll & Graf, 2001). He wrote his book as what he thought would be a last volley at the cell phone industry.

“I needed to tell the whole story in one place. I didn’t have the resources or the manpower to match what the cell phone industry was doing to try to discredit the work,” says Dr. Carlo. “Based on the book, a number of lawsuits were brought against the industry, and insurance carriers began excluding cell phone-related health risks in their coverage. It created a very difficult situation in the industry and for myself. I was worn out fighting that battle. In 2002, after I’d done my book tour, I just decided to take a break for a couple of years.”

Every day, we’re swimming in a sea of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) produced by electrical appliances, power lines, wiring in buildings, and a slew of other technologies that are part of modern life. The former Director General of the UN World Health Organisation and former Prime Minister of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland recently said during an interview with Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten that she gets a headache right away if she puts a mobile phone to the head. She also said that she has had health problems from mobile phone radiation for 25 years, and that research shows that there is no doubt that there are adverse health effects linked to this technology.

The former head of the WHO encouraged the public to protect themselves against the radiation from wireless technology:

– I want to say that you should protect yourself. Do not keep the cell phone in your pocket, she cautioned.

Gro Harlem Brundtland, who is a trained medical doctor, was the Director General of the WHO during 1998-2003. She uses her own mobile phone as little as possible and always keeps the phone as far away from the body as possible when she for instance has to send a text message
– I cannot have cell phone radiation near the head. I get an immediate headache. My body has reacted to cell phone radiation for 25 years, she told the reporters.

On a hot afternoon before Christmas, a group of workers were asked to clear their desks – immediately – and leave the building many of them had worked in for their entire careers. Everyone was given a cardboard box and told to take everything they needed, because there would be no going back inside the building. Ever.

There was an audible gasp at the news. Some women started crying. As if trapped in a story in which an iron door clangs loudly as it closes, the workers left the building. There were Christmas decorations still hanging over doorways, strung across desks, and a shocked sense of disbelief.

Many of the workers, specifically the women, felt scared, others were just angry. It had taken years – precisely 12 since the first of a dozen women was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 – for management to recognise that the building on the banks of the Brisbane River at Toowong, in Brisbane’s western suburbs, was unsafe.

Crédit Suisse, the second largest Swiss bank, has recently created a connected piggy bank called "Digipigi", available for now only in Switzerland.1 Its purpose seems to be to attract clients from the youngest age with the hope of keeping them from "cradle to the grave". It is being promoted as a way of teaching children how to handle money from a very young age and to prepare them for a cashless society. Digipigi is not suitable for children under age 3. 2

Digipigi is full of technology. It is not just a clock, an alarm clock, a night light but communicates via Wi-Fi with the associated smartphone apps, one for the child and one for the parents. The digital pig interacts with the child with 25 different facial expressions and noises and talks to the child.

 Is this like other connected toys, inviting easy access of hackers to the personal details of children?  Almost as bad as hacking, the personal data of children is tracked and used for the purpose of marketing such items as product offers, prize games or website content.  "The bank tracks users' behavior in the Digipigi apps and Digipigi money box together with the related personal information and stores this data on servers in Switzerland for five years."3  This is not mentioned in the Instruction Manual.

California: Berkeley Cell Phone "Right to Know" Ordinance

Yesterday the CTIA [U.S. wireless communications industry] submitted a statement to the federal district court regarding future management of the case. The CTIA indicated that it may petition the Supreme Court for a hearing even though the appeals court denied an en banc hearing.  According to the statement, both parties to the case have agreed that discovery and a trial is unnecessary, and neither party is willing to settle the case. Berkeley’s ordinance which has been in effect since 21 March 2016 requires cellphone retailers in the city to provide consumers with the following notification:

“To assure safety, the Federal Government requires that cell phones meet radiofrequency (RF) exposure guidelines. If you carry or use your phone in a pants or shirt pocket or tucked into a bra when the phone is ON and connected to a wireless network, you may exceed the federal guidelines for exposure to RF radiation. Refer to the instructions in your phone or user manual for information about how to use your phone safely.”

If one wants to “promote care” of handicapped persons at HUG, places free of electromagnetic (EM) waves should be created to treat electrosensitive persons (estimated to be 5% of the population). These persons, sensitive to the radiation emitted by Wi-Fi and other wireless technologies, cannot be treated at hospitals because this type of radiation saturates treatment rooms and even patient rooms. Everyone could become electrosensitive.

No longer dismissed as “conspiracy theory nonsense,” Rhode Island’s general assembly is concerned enough that geoengineering, or “intentional manipulation of the environment,” involves “hazardous activities that can harm human health and safety, the environment, and the economy . . .” that they passed a bill to regulate all geoengineering activities.

In late September, Rhode Island became the first state to enact legislation that calls on officials to examine how atmospheric-modification programs, commonly referred to as “geoengineering,” are affecting the Earth. The measure in question is the Geoengineering Act of 2017 (H. 6011), which was introduced by state Rep. Justin Price (R) earlier this year.

“The Rhode Island general assembly finds that geoengineering encompasses many technologies and methods involving hazardous activities that can harm human health and safety, the environment, and the economy of the state of Rhode Island. . .. It is therefore the intention of the Rhode Island general assembly to regulate all geoengineering activities,” the bill says.

It seems impossible to many physicians that non-ionizing radiation would cause biophysical symptoms. Patient reported health concerns are often dismissed as coincidence (e.g. cell phone use and brain cancer), or psychological (e.g. someone reporting electrosensitivity symptoms near devices), or stress related (e.g. a couple that is infertile). There also seems to be endless controversy surrounding adverse health effects from wireless devices. Physicians want to help patients and not give them incorrect advice or fan their fears. After all, one cannot see, hear or feel electromagnetic radiation. People must be “a bit off” to think effects could be caused by electronic gadgets we have used for years, right? Well, as it turns out, research from credible, unbiased sources indicates clear harm from microwave radio frequency radiation we are exposed to.

An increasing number of Canadians are expressing concerns over being exposed to radiation from baby monitors, wireless internet routers, and cellular phones.

Of the last 16 environmental petitions filed, 7 of those were in regards to “concerned potential adverse health effects on humans from radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation from personal wireless devices”.

Some of the submitted petitions expressed concerns over how close people hold cellular devices to their bodies, while one calls for Canada to stop marketing such devices to kids under the age of 14.

Another petition focuses on possible impacts of radiation on newborn babies and the human eye. In fact, one petition asks Statistics Canada to collect data on electromagnetic hypersensitivity as part of its health survey of the Canadian community.

Abstract

A new era of disease is fast emerging in the US. The 21st century model of chronic disease turns the old model upside down. The spotlight has long been on cancer and heart disease, which once were both growing exponentially. Now, among forty fast-growing diseases, the incidence of only three cancers and one cardio-vascular related condition are growing. In their place, four relatively new fast-growing disease groups have emerged: 1) neurological; 2) autoimmune; 3) inflammatory and 4) metabolic disease. A single molecule called peroxynitrite operates at the heart of more than forty fast-growing chronic diseases and conditions in the US. This fast-acting anion creates more than 130 biochemical disruptions in vivo. Among the most troubling is the nitration of L-tryptophan and L-tyrosine, which are precursors to critical neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Peroxynitrite also damages the blood brain barrier (BBB). Such biological markers are hallmarks of neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s, autism, bi-polar disorder and depression. The endogenous culprit – peroxynitrite – is well documented. But what about the exogenous cause? There is now increasing evidence that our modern electrical environment is imposing biological stress on our bodies. Dr. Martin Pall’s voltage-gated ion theory provides evidence to support the connection. He cites two dozen studies that show microwaves from cell phones trigger the internal mechanism that creates an over-production of nitric oxide and peroxynitrite. The connection between the spectacular growth in the use of electronics and wireless technologies and the explosion of chronic disease is more than a simple correlation. Few are aware of the chronic disease epidemic that is going on right now in the US. Fewer still have heard of the peroxynitrite connection. In July of 2017, the Republic and Canton of Geneva, Department of Public Instruction, Culture and Sport, Office for Children and Youth, Child and Youth Health Service of Switzerland did something rather unusual, but extremely proactive, to enforce the “Precautionary Principle.”

The Swiss Department of Public Instruction “issued a note on the risks of digital technology to health, which must be transmitted to all teachers at the start of the school year. The Service reminds us that screens also affect sleep and eyesight, and favor the development of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. The note briefly mentions electromagnetic radiation (in the context of cancer risk and the precautionary recommendations by the Federal Office for Public Health regarding use of Wi-Fi-WLAN). It is our hope that this note will also be sent to all physicians, especially pediatricians,” as per translation by the Editor of “Towards Better Health.” [2]

The information put forth by the Swiss Department of Public Instruction [1] borders on “dire” regarding the health problems no one in the microwave industry or its professional associations apparently wants to divulge to the public, since knowing such information rightfully would QUESTION the ‘universal’ acceptance and reliance upon harmful electromagnetic-radiation-emitting ‘smart’ technologies!

The newly released Apple Watch — with its added feature of cellular connectivity — is reigniting concerns among some public health researchers and medical experts over the potential health risks of longterm exposure to radiation from cell phones.

There is no definitive data from federal health regulators showing a direct link between cell phone radiation — also known as radio frequency radiation — and health problems in humans. But recent research indicates that exposure to cell phone radiation is the likely cause of malignant growths in the brains and hearts of male rats, and can cause neurological damage in rats born to mothers that were exposed to the radiation during pregnancy.
